Oh I’d say ACE slabs are anything but cheap! They have a solid weightiness in hand and the slab design is 100% their own.
I think ACE is trailing (leading?) the vote because it’s a UK company with only a small reach so far; though they are in the process of expanding and setting up an EU site at the moment.
It’s not about who’s going to win; it’s about seeing the spread of opinions as the options are narrowed. Whilst PSA market share may be highest, it doesn’t mean community sentiment is in favour of it. PSA commands the highest secondary market price, but I would (generally) not pick them as my company of choice outside of monetary gain in 2026.
There have been polls done in the past about which slabs people have in their collection, or which company people choose to grade with personally. This is simply a different way of framing it at a time when many companies are having their respective shortcomings.
They did have that break in to their storage where a lot of cards were stolen. Trust seems kinda low right now.
Also as far as their label art, i think it had its place and is fairly popular but being stuck in a smaller european market made them miss the trend of graded extended art cases and now they are stuck as a middle of the road option for those who want to grade but arent committed to a larger case.
Yeah, I think that break-in beginning of last year hurt the trust in them for a bit, but they seem to have bounced back now. Since that happened and they made changes, their submission numbers have grown massively. I think they graded ~60k cards in January alone.
Some seem to still love the art labels (I’m a fan of certain ones), but yeah, it’s not for everyone. They do also give the option of either standard black/white or colour matched labels if you don’t like the art options, which I guess is good for more choice.
