And we’re here at last! Sorry for the delay, but the final bout between PSA and CGC is here. Pretty steadily between each round there’s been a definitive loser since round 2. Intrigued to see how the votes will split here!

- CGC
- PSA
Thanks all <3

This was pretty tough for me to be honest, But i voted CGC out.
A few thoughts on why below, TLDR at the bottom.
I was really glad when CGC first started grading cards, With them going the extra mile and grading a lot of stuff that PSA would previously never touch. Not just odd test prints and errors, but well known card variants that deserved to be recognised. I was favourable of them even throughout the whole astroturfing saga and mistakes that they made in the first few years.
Without CGC, I very much doubt PSA would of changed their stance on a lot of cards they refused to recognise/grade back then even today. So I am still very much thankful for them. Not to mention I still believe they are pretty trustworthy when it comes to identifying counterfeits and accurately grading cards.
I am though, slightly disappointed since the change from the blue labels, (not so much the design since it was kind of funny they could never centre the grade on the label) but more-so the system when they changed the scales adding perfect/pristine 10’s and bumped all 9.5’s to a normal 10? I guess?.
This along with things like the Guinness world record collabs is making me less optimistic about the route they are going down, I seemed to be more hopeful/excited for them in the first few years of them grading cards. (I know the whole test print Akabane fiasco is a big deal for a lot of people too) I’d like to think that the old CGC would of never gotten themselves into that mess.
I still am very thankful for them though and continue to collect cards in their slabs. In this current market, They continue to provide fantastic value for money when purchasing good condition cards for cheap.
Now, this is not to say PSA is perfect, I’m sure we all know the crazy stuff that has happened over the years, grading fakes, mislabelling tons of cards, well the list goes on and on, and likewise I’m also disappointed with the current direction PSA has taken in the last year or so. It seems the newer market has had an effect on business as usual, which is to be expected i suppose since the volume of business that they have brought to them in the last year alone.
TLDR: Both these companies have issues, But I like PSA’s simple 1-10 grading system and overall case & label design better than CGC’s.
Most of my collection is not in plastic though, so I would love to hear other peoples opinions on why they voted!
I voted PSA out.
I’ve been voting the whole time as ‘eliminating’ one meaning they either never existed or they shut down.
If PSA were to *poof* I feel like my grading experience would be much better. I would live in a world of nice clear cases, where a 1 micron indent doesn’t get a 6, and where I get max value without getting upcharged. ![]()
