Future of eBay after PayPal...?

Yesterday eBay announced they’re adding Google Pay as a payment method. With the transition to Ayden and they farwell of PayPal, what will the future of eBay look like? PayPal has been offering a lot of security to the whole eBay process and I doubt Google Pay, Apple Pay and the whole Ayden system is going to add a similar thing.
Have you prepared for the transition? If so, how?

Where does this say anything about dropping support for PayPal? I imagine the majority of items sold will still go through PayPal, but this change will allow sellers to also accept Google Pay and Apple Pay if they so desire.

Paypal is guaranteed to be a form of payment on ebay until July 2023. After that, who knows?

I like the security of PayPal, but they’ve been acting odd lately. They’ve shut down hundreds of accounts for using FF payment. Not really a problem with eBay, but I’m interested to see how google handles fee-less payment.

"With the new experience, eBay will manage the payments transaction, which means shoppers will be able to complete their purchases all on eBay. At the same time, sellers will no longer be paid directly from buyers via PayPal, and instead will be paid daily and directly to their bank accounts."

This will be terrible for a lot of sellers once it becomes mandatory

If FF payment is being used to transfer money for any other reason than transferring it to friends and family for reasons other than making purchases of goods then this isn’t acting odd, this is ensuring that users aren’t breaking PayPal’s terms of use and abusing this feature PayPal offers to commit fraud.

Where did you get that quote from? It doesn’t appear to be from the article shared in the OP.

Odd as in they used to not care about a couple ff here and there. They’ve just now decided to crack down.
Who is PayPal to tell me who my friends are?

@cross even if you buy/sell a card to a family member or friend, you’re still technically supposed to use goods and services because you’re selling a good. Otherwise, I should be exempt from all taxes because “everyone is my friend”.

@charizandrew But how can they prove a good or service is being exchanged?

you have to deliver the proof as it is you using THEIR service.

@cross good question, I’m not sure

How do I prove that I’m not exchanging a good or service? There’s literally NO evidence lol.

All payments will be done via Adyen, is what I have come to understand. But how will this affect it all? Is the PayPal payment going through Adyen or not? And this whole system of everything going straight to the bank account is also something that really cannot be beneficial to all. It’s nice for the small sellers doing one sale a year so they instantly have the money. But how many of you, like me, store money on PayPal waiting for e.g. better exchange rates or just having ‘online pocket money’?

I’m probably the minority here, but I transfer all of my money out of PayPal as soon as I get it. If they choose to put your account on hold for any reason you can lose access to that money for up to 6 months.

That´s exactly the point I wanted to make, since they are not forcing you to use their service and you are not able to prove, they basically can do whatever they feel like is best. I don´t want to say that I´m agreeing with their practices but that´s just how it is.

@shadowless
It’d be one thing if they (theoretically) just gave me my money and banned me. They’re holding all of your funds without proof that you broke any of their rules.
I see what you mean though, I don’t HAVE to use PayPal I choose to. I think it turns into more of a legal battle when they’re holding your funds.

I never keep more than 10% of my liquid cash in my PayPal account (most of the time it is empty). That goes for my personal and business accounts as well. Heard too many horror stories myself.

The older you get the more changes you get to experience and the more accepting you become.
Now if fighting them could help, then fight away.
I’m interested in these new changes but not mortified by them. They will happen and we will adjust. It’ll all be fine:)
