French Promo "Ultimate zone" distribution

Hi guys, new baguette member here ! (excuse my mistakes in english)

On a french group someone asked about this card (DP55 Zone Ultime) and about how it was distributed since it’s a french exclusive and that there is no information about it on bulbapedia. Since then I have been obsessed with it (don’t ask me why, I don’t know myself), spending hours looking for it online, with absolutely no results. Some people said that they heard that it may have been distributed in Quebec but i found nothing to corroborate this version as for now.
So please, if anyone has the slightest information about it, to help preserve my sanity, do not hesitate to share it with me.
Thank you

Only info I found, is reasoning why it was a promo in french;

bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Ultimate_Zone_(Arceus_91)
“A Cosmos Holofoil version was also later released as one of the DP Black Star Promos, exclusively in French. It is possible that this card and Ultimate Zone only received French promotional versions due to the exclusion of the Arceus expansion in France and their interaction with Arceus cards, which were released in the French Supreme Victors expansion in the form of a sub-set.”

==> PL Arceus did not get released in French.

Yes I had seen that and it seems accurate but my question here is not why it was only release in french but how ? I guess that this card didn’t just appeared in the kids hands or in the collectors binders ! Was it handed at a tournament, in a special box or whatever ? We have infos about the other DP promo card only released in French (DP54) that was insisde of a tripack but none about DP55.
However thank you for your time @poketrade

Oh, never knew about these French-only DP promos. Another one of those exceptions of a non-English/non-Japanese card outside of the Base Set that PSA will grade (since I see some graded in the PSA pop report).

Unfortunately I can’t help you with any information regarding your search. I did find two for sale on eBay: one from a UK seller and one from a US seller, but both for pretty insane prices I might add…
As expected I see none at the recent sold listings (also not on the French or Canadian eBays), and CardMarket doesn’t even have the option for the DP54 or DP55 to be put up for sale…

When trying to search further for it, the French Pokémon wiki doesn’t even have a page for it… :unamused: www.pokepedia.fr/Promo_DP
The DP54 does have a page, but no useful information about its release.

Someone mentioned in a discussion from 2015 on the French side of the PokeChange forum that she thought these came from some kind of French tournament or tripack blisters (based on the wording, it seem to be just a guess though, and she didn’t knew either).

I see in the comment above you know the DP54 comes from a tripack, but you can’t find any information for the DP55. Do you perhaps have a source or picture for that tripack of DP55?

Apart from that I see it briefly mentioned here and there (i.e. it’s mentioned here), but nothing useful about how it was released unfortunately.

I tried, but unfortunately I’m unable to find any useful information. :slightly_frowning_face: I think your best bet would be to find someone who acquired it at the time, or perhaps someone who managed or visited tournaments in France (or Canada?) at the time of its release (which seems to be somewhere between November 2009 and February 2010, since these French versions were mentioned on the PokeBeach forum in March 2010 and the English DP53 and DP56 promos were released in November and December 2009 respectively).

Wow ! First of all I’m amazed to see that you dug (?) the subject that much ! I didn’t found some of these French forums discussion even tho I’m French and thought I did a good job at looking everywhere online :slightly_frowning_face:
About the source for the tripack, I found a youtube video from 2013 (with only 73 views :face_with_spiral_eyes: ) of a guy opening it and you can clearly see the card (and hear him say its name if you speak French). Here is the link : videoAnd I’m really not sure about the tournament distribution… I had an other guy that came to me who told me that he remember seeing it a long time ago in a magazine in BELGIUM… Every time a new possible lead appears another one totally different throw the doubt on it :sob: (French phrasing, not sure if it translate to English).

I posted several messages on different French groups but now I might have to find Canadian and Belgian groups too !

Also as a new member on the forum it’s really cool to see people interested and engaged in these kind of silly research

I basically just googled French Pokémon “DP55” and looked through the six pages of results. I either came across old eBay sold listings (through backups/caches of other websites) or the French links I posted above (with some help from Google translate, since I can barely read French, haha).
And I knew there was a pretty big German Pokémon wiki which contains more information about certain German releases than Bulbapedia, so I had hoped that French wiki would too, but unfortunately it was rather lackluster… :slightly_frowning_face:

Oh, that’s a nice find! Thanks for sharing.

And didn’t think about Belgium, but I guess that’s indeed a possibility too. Belgium releases are usually in French, and sometimes English.

I always like these kind of researches personally. Can also be seen with some of the articles written by me.
It’s unfortunate I wasn’t able to find any useful information, though. Bit of a bummer.

There’s so much information on this forum, it’s amazingly endless ! I will definitely check some of your articles

This card seems to hide its secret very well but I’m confident that someone, one day, will discover the truth

Hi, I’m French and I found this card in my collection. I’ve been amazed by the price but it wasn’t rare or useful to play with the other kids, you know it’s not a shiny card so not a lot of interest when you’re 10. I’m not 100% sure but for what I remember it comes from a 3 booster offers with a promotional card, in fact I’ve also found DP53 in my collection. It’s linked with Arceus because I was a huge fan of this Pokémon and I tried to get every types of it, indeed “zone ultime DP55” is among Arceuses in my collection.Hope I helped you.

Hi,

I’m french too and I have this card in my collection, for what I remember it was in a pack of three booster , it was a promotional card , I also have DP53 so my guess is that I bought 2 three booster pack. It is linked with Arceus because I was a huge fan of this Pokémon and I found this card among Arceuses. Mine a 2010 edition and was illustrated by Yusuke Ishikawa. The hypothesis of Belgium is not necessary wrong because I live close to it but don’t remember buying card there though it’s possible. Hope I helped you.
