Celebi (Triumphant 3): Possible Spanish release?

So, over on the r/IsMyPokemonCardFake subreddit, someone posted a Spanish nonholo version of Celebi from Triumphant, which at least at first glance appears authentic to me:

This is interesting, since Triumphant was not regularly released in Spanish. However as the ones of you well versed in promotional releases from that time probably know, this nonholo version of the card was included in DVD releases of the Zoroark: Master of Illusions movie, at least in Europe. Now the English, German and French versions aren’t too difficult to find, but I have never seen the Spanish one before. I researched a bit and did manage to find Spanish advertisements showing that the DVD contains a card, but even the best pic I could find is a bit too blurry to see what language the promo card is actually in:

The posts by Universal on Facebook and the Spanish Pokémon website don’t mention the card when covering the DVD release, this article from that time does however. Another version of the advertisement with the card can also be found on this website, but the card is even harder to make out there. What I also found interesting is that on a sales post for a new copy of the DVD on Instagram from 2018, someone responded 5 years later also asking about the card, so me and the poster from Reddit are not the first ones interested in that possible release. So if anyone has anything to contribute please feel free to do so, especially if you have some leads to where one might find pics of the card or the DVD containing the card. I have already scoured Wallapop, Vinted and partially Mercado Libre without much success and am not looking to spend 300€ to take a chance with a sealed DVD xD. Finally, I’m obligatory tagging you @Rockets_rares since I think you know more about Spanish releases from that time than most other people, so you will probably either be able to help or will increase the number of people interested in that card to four

Did you set an alert on Cardmarket?
https://www.cardmarket.com/en/Pokemon/Products/Singles/Triumphant/Celebi-TM3?language=4

Sometimes I found really rare variations there.

I am not necessarily looking to buy it, I’m rather interested in more information to confirm this release at all, but you’re right, setting an alert probably doesn’t hurt either, since when listings pop up, I could try to contact the sellers and possibly get some information that way.

Have your spoken to @dromanyte, theyre usually great about research. Perhaps theyve run across something about it.

Second to that, im impressed that sub had something unique pop up on it. Always cool to see people getting more information from niche subs.

I wasn’t aware of this, but i can ask a few friends. Do you know if it was in spain or latin america?

Given that the poster on Reddit is probably from Europe as they mentioned Cardmarket, the site with the article mentioning the card is from spain and I had success on Wallapop at least finding the DVD at all in contrast to Mercado Libre, I think this should be a European release, so Spain.

Thanks for the tag @lyleberr … I appreciate a lot when you all call me for this type of things … It’s very interesting …

Not gonna lie … this is the first time I see this card in Spanish. It surprises me because the only HGSS era expansions released in Spanish are the 2 first ones: HGSS Base Set and Unleashed. Undaunted and Triumphant were unreleased in Spanish (however, translated digital assets for TCG Online exists)

98% sure that the card in this promo ad is in Spanish. If you see well, the first attack is only 1 word. It looks like it starts with a “P” … it might be “Premonición” … while the second attack is a group of 2 words which is kinda long … For me it looks like it says “Atadura Hoja”

A comparison with assets (Left is English; Right is Spanish)

It’s hard to determine with only the promo ad. In both regions (Latin America & Spain), the movie has the exact same title … it’s called “Zoroark: El maestro de ilusiones”

However, I’m almost convinced that it was distributed in Spain.
According to the article of the Movie in WikiDex, the movie was released first in Spain.

  • Spain: 26th February 2011
  • Latin America: 10th March 2012

Technically 1 year of difference …

Also, we have to highlight the release of the DVD of the Movie … This can be found on Bulbapedia

  • English one was released around September 2011.

So, it’s impossible that the Spanish one was released in 2010 (Japanese was released in December 2010). It’s most likely that it was released on 26th October 2011.

By October 2011, the Latin American Spanish dub was not released (it was released in March 2012) …

I don’t think that the DVD along the card was released in 2012 … By late 2012, Pokémon was focusing more in Black & White expansions … HGSS era already ended …

If you want to be 100% sure, you need to record a bit of the DVD to identify the dub … If it’s the Latin American Spanish dub, it was distributed in Latin America … If it’s the Spain Spanish dub, it was distributed in Spain …

Edit: I didn’t even notice this while I was writing the previous text … the promotional ad has 2011 copyright …
So, it’s very likely that it was released in 2011 (and the dub inside the DVD is the Spain Spanish one)
