I woke up this morning to a quarter inch of water in my collection room… the water came up through the floor from the 6 inches of rain we had last night. THANK GOD I have always been paranoid and prepared for this and I keep everything either in my water/fireproof safe or at least on a shelf off the floor, (also in the bank safety deposit box chest high.) Nothing was damaged!! This is just a warning to anyone keeping there collection/cards on the floor. Flooding happens when you least expect it so always be prepared!
Just to be safe, i would inventory everything with values and pictures and make sure you have renter’s insurance.
Check your renter insurance policy as you may need to add a floater policy to cover things like collectibles or jewelry. They should already be covered, but their value may exceed the limit of your renter’s insurance coverage.
Anything with value was in my safety deposit box, or my safe, both with silica desiccants to absorb moisture. It’s all taken care of! 0 damage! I’m very lucky
Does humidity affect PSA graded cards? If the card is completely sealed inside the case, then how would humidity affect it? Does anyone have evidence that humidity has caused damage to a PSA card? Lots of questions. Please refer me to another thread if this has been discussed before.
I’m in NW iowa, getting water in my basement. Just bought this house and they said the basement didn’t leak. I know we have got a lot of rain but I’m still irritated. The basement is fully finished, was kind of the deal breaker why I bought the house. Now looks like I’ll have to gut it all out.
Yes I would think humidity would affect psa cards. I keep all of mine in a fire/water proof safe, with silica packs to absorb any moisture trapped in the safe.
I’m pretty sure if your cards are in a air conditioned environment you are fine
If you’re a mile high, humidity will likely never be an issue. Florida is another story.
I’d say over a decade a PSA card in a shoebox in the basement of a Florida home will like warp in that time with no buffer against the humidity (waterproof safe, silica packets, dehumidifier etc.). It’s a long term concern, but I think most of us are here long term!
