FINAL RESULTS - E4's Favorite Rayquaza

094/PCG-P is my pick. That Rayquaza just looks so elegant. Most of not all other artwork seem to have some sort of aggression in the depiction of Rayquaza. But the PCG-P just looks calmer and more peaceful. Atleast, that is my noob analysis.

Cheers!

interesting pov. not an approach i would expect someone to take, but i can respect it.

And to be clear, these have been already fun to attend and must require a lot of work an preparations so definitely not complaining, just a suggestion to improve it even further

i’ll leave this up for another 6 or 7 hours or so. i was hoping for closer to 100 votes, but regardless, it’ll be interesting to see the final ranking

I guess the lower participation may be because they already voted in the first post previously before it was edited.

Those threadmarks would help if they are possible to implement else a new thread is probably the best bet.

i just wanted to save the mods some trouble by keeping everything in one thread

results are up!

aside from the top 2, the final results are kinda blowing my mind.

I’m glad to see people aren’t sleeping on Rayquaza C. I thought it’d be way lower.

I wonder if the V alt art would have done better if it wasn’t for Zinnia. I adore the card as it is and would have placed it first, but I think it’s kind of diminished as a Rayquaza card with her there.

My votes were:

Fukuda’s Rayquaza Star definitely deserves a vote. Usually Fukuda’s somewhat weird bodyproportions for the goldstars can make them look a bit derpy, but in this case the overexaggerated features definitely hit the cool-mark. Rayquaza is already blessed by a fantastic shiny, and the card featuring mostly only three colors (even the energies matching the accents on Rayquaza) makes for a banger of a card. To top it off, the composition of Rayquaza and the leading lines in the background is very pleasing.

The delta species Rayquaza features a very similar composition. Using Rayquaza’s snakey body as a feature rather than a hindrance to overcome is executed to perfection here. And with Arita’s style this definitely deserves top marks!

Another Arita card, this time showing Rayquaza head-on, and extremely menacing this time. The shading and highlighting on Rayquaza and the surrounding clouds is stellar, combine that with the realism of something you could see out of the window of your plane just gives me goosebumps!

I feel like Rayquaza lends itself well to CGI, this composition by Ueda is great! It uses the body for framing, maybe not as well as the Star and δ, but this time it shows off the proportions, and you get a real sense of depth. The art ‘reads’ really well, following the body from tail to head.

My last vote goes to another CGI Rayquaza by Sugiyama, while the arm feels a bit stretched, I enjoy the lighting on this card a tremendoes amount. The front part being illuminated by light shows the regular colors, but the further you get from the light source the more the body is plunged into darkness and the colours change to reflect a much cooler light source. This one also feels most snakelike, slithering through the stormy sky when something catches it’s eye from behind. Bonus points for forming a panorama with Deoxys ex (check out the lunchbox if you havent seen it yet):

Thanks for attending my presentation, what were your picks, and why did you pick them?

Did not expect this with 2nd and 3rd. I wanted 4th in the ranking but didn’t think people actually liked the artwork.

This thread made me realize I don’t really care for Rayquaza’s design. Now I’m actually a tad scared for the Mew thread.

one of the best special/alt arts of the SWSH era tbh happy it made top 5 and love how Zinnia on it finishes the artwork in a sense from Double Crisis through the calm of the blue sky.

Interestingly a lot more dividing results than umbreon and my votes too were scattered all around the poll, with umbreon i could at least see why people liked the top voted results even if i didn’t vote for them but here i’m really finding it difficult to see how #2 was voted better than so many other options. Imo it’s a nice artwork all right but definitely not among the best, but like others have mentioned already it’s nice that Kawayoo ray gets attention it deserves.
