I thought it would be fun to see not only what e4’s favorite Umbreon artwork is, but how they all stack up with each other. I am also trying to make the order chronological, but there is a chance some of them are not exact.

Because of the limit of 25 options for a poll, I will split these up into two: best “regular” half art, and best RR (Generational Gimmicks like ex, gold stars, primes, etc)
Top 25 most voted after a couple days will be consolidated into one poll. I’m expecting some of these to get no votes or maybe only one or two. This will be purely based on volume and not %( i.e those with the least number of votes will be eliminated)

AA: Alt Art (same card printed with different art, typically for promos or Best Of sets), SR: Full Art, HR: Rainbow, SSR: Shiny Full Art, SA: Special Art SR/HR, CSR: Character Art SR

The V AA was confusing, referring to the tin promo and not the V alt art from Eevee Heroes.
It’s in order so I figured it out, but guessing others might vote V AA when they meant the SA, which is an SR
If you are doing cameos, there is Oracle and a few others. Looks like a lot of votes were lost from the reset. Maybe add a third category for any future additions.
yeah really i should have done better from the start or just not altered the poll. maybe even it would have been better to just add them to the consolidated poll
but i think the karen is a stretch for this. i mostly included it for the memes. all night party however does largely focus on umbreon and should be included imo
I don’t think they use it incorrectly. They just use a different definition. To my knowledge in English there was never an official designation for these cards (with the yellow A alternative promo cards being a special case).
Usually when people say “Alt Art” they will think of a textured fullart card with a special artwork distinct from regular fullarts. The usage is ambiguous so I also prefer special art but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it incorrect
i totally hear what you’re saying. the only reason i would say it is incorrect is because we have a clear example of what an alternate art is dating back to at least e series where they printed alternate arts of cards to use as promos and to group everything together as “alt art” complicates the designation.
Either way, regardless of my opinion or anyone else’s, thankfully, TPC/TPCI decided to make it easier for everyone to know what to call them going forward with the "AR/SAR(IR/SIR) designations. Unfortunately it was 3 gens too late since they started back in XY with CP2’s Legendary Shine Collection.
You could also argue the first ones were in BW’s Shiny Collection with cards like the Reshiram, Mew EX, and Meloetta EX, but IMO those are full arts and not special arts.
You could also argue the first ones would then be from Double Crisis, but I’d argue those are just regular arts, albeit on the same level of cool art as CHRs.
Maybe one of the XY-Ps like the hoopa promo came out before CP2, but either way, IMO that’s the first set with clearly a regular art and a fancy special art version that takes up the whole card and features a full scene instead of just the pokemon in front of some patterned background.
i’ll let this poll run throughout the night and morning tomorrow, then i’ll consolidate the top 25-ish into a new poll tomorrow. I could close it right now, but i’ve been surprised at some cards picking up steam and leaving others behind.
Masago Neo is my number 1, Kimura Neo would be number 2 if it was holo. As it is, I’ll have to give that spot to VS.
I threw in a vote for the McDonalds. I want to do the same for the Aquapolis but I haven’t so far. It’s one of the most iconic backgrounds and poses but the Umbreon just isn’t attractive. If it were I think it would top this list and be one of my personal favorites.
The second list was easy, the Unseen ex is the only card I like.
