Final Fantasy Cards

Very sorry for the off topic thread, I understand this is a Pokémon forum and all…

Curious us if anyone else collects the FF tcg cards? Also wondering if PSA will grade these?

Thanks!

Interesting hobby, the base set i heard was selling quite well. how many expansion are there thus far?

As for posting, this should have been done in the side collections thread or ‘everything else’ in random topics.

Opus 1 was the English base set, still appears to be selling well. Opus II drops at the end of this month. Thanks for the posting tip, wasn’t sure where to put it.

You’ll have to email PSA and ask if they will authenticate them.

In that email, you’ll have to provide them with links that can verify their legitimacy.

This is not an easy process at all, I’ve tried it before with other cards and despite a mountain of evidence, including an entire online database of every card, they still said no.

This is good information, thank you. I did see an auction for a bgs lot, which made me curious about PSA. I’ll go the bgs route if I have to, but much prefer PSA. What type of evidence would they need if not the card database? Also, I notice you said authenticate and not grade - is that the best that would come of an inquiry?

Authenticating is the issue, as grading is just looking at the condition of the cardboard.

You’ll need to provide as much evidence as you can.

  • Distribution
  • Production
  • Database (not fan made) in English
  • Anything else you can find

I’m going to be honest mate, there is a massive chance they’ll say no. Good luck!

Thank you. Just so I’m clear, are you saying they would only authenticate them and not grade them, or that I would need to show proof of authenticity in order for PSA to grade them?

You would need to show them proof in order for them to be authenticated. Grading is a step after authentication.

I wanted to collect these as I am a big fan of the series(although I haven’t played any since 12). But the cost to get the cards here in Australia was just too much for me to consider it a viable option.

They are available from EB Games mate

$7 per pack.

I only give my business to EB Games in the most extreme of circumstances.

The cards are beautiful, and as a huge fan of the series, I could not resist.

Update: called PSA today and they told me they have decided not to grade these (at least for now). He tried explaining the reason, but couldn’t articulate it well at all. I guess it’s off to BGS with these!

I absolutely love the final fantasy game series… 7 being my favorite of course. anyways I just heard about these today and the opus 1 boxes are getting price quickly. but I got lucky and bought 2 today for 320 and the new opus 2 for 140… I’m hoping these will be a good investment. I want the damn cloud foil!!

Those are decent prices on the boxes and honestly I think it’s a sound investment. The art is beautiful and the quality is mint to gem mint out of the pack. I bought a box of opus 2 but mostly have stuck with singles. Getting close to the full foil set of opus 1 and halfway done with 2. It’s nice to see other fans of the series!

I purchased an Opus 2 box, and they are pretty nice. Not much of a second hand market at the moment so singles are kind of pricey.
Didn’t get in before Opus 1 boxes become stupidly priced.

The boxes are rigged though, you basically will not got a single double of any foils/legendary/hero? in a whole booster box.

I think venusaur got around 70 foils for opus 1. I’d like a complete set of the holos… but most of all I want cloud legendary in bgs 10… that’d be sick

I opened a box too some weeks ago, actually got into Final Fantasy because of this post or another one around here some time ago!

The quality is absolutely stunning, Mint/Gem Mint out of the box, the boxes are (un)fortunately rigged… 7 Legends (highest rarity) is guaranteed and no doubles for Heroes and for Common’s it was always 3 or 4 and Rares always 1 or 2 (a single card had 3) so that’s not random at all… As an investor I don’t like it at all, but I suppose it is very cool for players, I’d just like some more variance.

Still very pleased about it, and it seems like Foil value is a steady double of the non-foil counterparts.

Give it 6-12 months imo before buying a ton of this stuff.

Most tcgs, licensed or otherwise tend to lose steam in western markets after a year or so.

In my local area they tried to push this game and now it’s dead. The card quality was really nice too.

Didn’t know about this game, gonna look for FF9 singles

What I’ve read (don’t have a source right now around) is that they were just trying out how it was perceived in the Western markets and they would push seriously with the Opus III release, which would be around July. Got to see what of that is true, but they did announce American and European championships some days ago, and the game in general is perceived well because boxes are sold out very quickly, on the other hand they are not producing tons of them right now.
