Hi there,
I’ve seen a few discussions about Korean vintage cards in the forum, so I thought I’d drop by to show off some of the unique pieces from my collection. I’m not a dedicated Korean collector, but I do enjoy hunting for vintage Korean Pokémon items.
I’ve sold a few of my rarer pieces over the years, but here are some of the ones still in my collection:
Sealed Korean Base Set Theme Deck Display Box
I used to have dozens of these display boxes — I even shipped a few to collectors in the U.S., Italy, Turkey, and France over the years. I still have two sealed boxes left in my personal collection.
The story behind how I got these goes back about 10 years. Back when I was a student with some disposable income from a side hustle, I managed to track down a former employee of Daewon Co. Ltd — the company that distributed Pokémon cards in Korea around 2000. He wasn’t with the company anymore but still had a few boxes lying around and agreed to sell me some of his old stock. We had some great conversations about the early Pokémon days in Korea, though I’ve since lost touch with him.
Im sure many of the collectors here have seen the 2player deck version so I’ll just put it here briefly xD
2004 Pikachu Daewon Promo #1
Probably one of the rarest Pikachu promos I know of. I had it graded by a Korean grading company called BRG. These Pikachu cards are often referred to as ADV Pikachu in Korea today. I bought it from the same Daewon contact I mentioned above. Surprisingly, the condition was excellent — especially considering it had never been sleeved.
2017 S&M The Royal Masked FA Korean Promo
Like the Pikachu, this one was also graded by BRG. Only 30 copies were distributed in Korea. I’ve heard there are about 100 Japanese copies, but I’m not sure about the Chinese equivalent. To get one, you had to enter a tournament and win first place.
For the record, I didn’t participate as a player (I’m not much into the gameplay side of the TCG). I purchased mine from a local player who won one of the events and decided to sell. I’ve been considering crossing it over to PSA at some point — we’ll see.
My vintage stuff doesn’t really stack up against what most of you guys have here on E4, so I figured I’d show some of the few things that might actually stand out a bit lol. But I’m still proud to be one of the few vintage collectors holding it down here in Korea — I’ve only come across maybe one or two others around.
