Favourite attack animations from the games

So what are yours? Been playing some older gens recently and got a bit nostalgic for older attack animations and the sound effects that go with them!

The three that I enjoy the most:

1. Aeroblast (Gen 2). Like Hyper Beam (even with the same sound effect) but a bit more extreme. I love the “powering up” bit at the very start too. I was really miffed by how rubbish Aeroblast looked in Gen 3 when I finally got Lugia transferred into a Gen 3 game from XD.

2. Thunder (Gen 2). Actually very close call between this and the Gen 1 version which is also awesome (especially how the sound effect momentarily interrupts the music). But Gen 2’s triple strikes of lightning and the really rapid, powerful-sounding blasts are just amazing.

3. Hydro Pump (Gen 3). A clear upgrade over Gen 2’s animation imo. Gen 3 Hydro Pump sounds great and the animation of the two spiralling streams of water has always seemed so damn satisfying to watch.

Let me know what your favourites are! There are so many other honourable mentions and awesome moves (Gen 4 Hyper Beam for example…) but I just stuck with 3.

The first one I could think of off the top of my head is Sky Attack from the Stadium games

Definitely one of my favorites from when I was a kid. Although, I still think it’s pretty damn cool

Couldn’t find a gif of this one but I thought Reshiram and Zekrom’s signature moves were super cool because the camera actually moved upwards to show the attack being charged mid-air

Pokemon BW - Fusion Flare and Fusion Bolt Powered-UP!!

I love both substitute and metronome.

Substitute is such a frustrating move to come up against, and it just feels like a slap in the face with the cute little doll that pops out.

And metronome because it just looks so sassy

I’ve always really liked the Glare and Scary face animations in Gen 3 games. Couldn’t find a good gif of it.

Draco Meteor animation from Generation V is really cool. The best thing is the sound effects.
