Yeah, I love how those (at the time) new, powerful moves for the starters had that sepia-esque effect to really emphasise that these were serious moves.
I’d only seen the Gen 4 version before but 5s looks awesome, especially that camera angle tilt to show the meteors approaching!
As a Playstation kid in the 90s I completely missed the Stadium games but that looks awesome and would make me want to keep a poor move like Sky Attack on Moltres just to use it.
Will have to play them via emu at some point perhaps. Maybe Nintendo will re-release them but I’m not enough into gaming these days to be paying for the Switch online sub thing to get at the retro stuff.
It’s interesting that many Pokemon animations seemed to carry all the way over to Battle Revolution on the Wii (not sure about any attack animations specifically).
Always enjoyed a good flame wheel
from the gameboy color days. Leer
Shadow Force Legends Arceus
Fusion Flare/Bolt Pokemon BW/BW2
Freeze shock/Ice Burn BW2
Nothing can beat gen 2 wonderful use of simple effects and ui distortion to give emphasis to attacks.
But look how dramatic is Power Whip in gen 6 lol
I’m a simple man but i really love some of the gen 1 moves and their sound effects, i remember the powerful feel they gave me already as a kid and they still give me the same feels. My absolute favourite is razor leaf with psychic being a close second. It’s crazy how much dynamics and power can be included in some black and white pixels. Added some of my other favourites below them.
