Starmie, Dewgong, Lapras
Slowpoke, Golduck, Gyarados for me
Squirtle
, Slowbro and Blastoise!
My influences are mostly the gen1 anime and movies. I think the 3 Pokemon I chose are just super cool.
Thanks for splitting up in rarity. Although it was a hard choice between Kabutops and Blastoise.
Cheers!
Went with Krabby, Tentacruel and Gyarados.
Goldeen and Seaking getting 0% means they should be next in line for an evolution, regional or something.
Psyduck, Slowbro, Gyarados for me. The toughest choice was between Squirtle, Slowpoke and Psyduck but at the end of the day the influence of the anime pushed me to Psyduck. Easiest choice was Slowbro because Slowbro!
The uncommons were the hardest for me - dewgong, slowbro, omastar and golduck are all great. Funny how the starter middle evolutions get as much love as the first and final.
They are the most boring Gen 1 Pokemon to me. Whenever I do a runthrough of Gen 1, I always look to use new Pokemon on my team every time. Seaking is the only Water type I’ve never cared to use.
Definitely agree they can use a regional variant or another evolution (or at least some really cool new card art like fellow fish Lumineon got in a couple of different recent sets). That’s especially considering that Seadra, which was nearly as boring as Seaking in Gen 1, got Kingdra as soon as Gen 2.
It was the Zubat of the sea in Gen 1. If you didn’t have repels on you while surfing, you had to be prepared to run into 500 of those things (and at wildly different levels; you could run into a Level 5 and then five paces later hit a Level 40).

I’m amazed that one of the coolest water types, Poliwrath, is the lowest ranked in its category. Look at this powerful and majestic dude:
Poliwrath is cool. Very unique typing, unusual movepool, lots of great cards (I’m partial to the Neo Discovery.) The Fissure/Mind Reader/Quick Claw combo from the Judo boy in Stadium 2 Prime cup was gnarly. I think he would be more popular if he was less useless, i.e had a higher attack stat and a better fighting move (in all gens, incredibly enough.)
This was an epic episode:

All great points. The Neo Destiny Poliwrath was 1 of 2 cards in my first foray into the Neo sets.
I think the poli-line is underrated in general especially with the older gens not giving the best move sets and the typing configurations didn’t do much for them either. I used a Poliwrath in my playthrough of Sun/Moon to great success. Regardless, glad to see another Poliwrath enjoyer
Definitely. I’ve actually had more success with Poliwhirl than Poliwrath in un-tiered fun stuff because the base 90 speed is more suitable for the Hypnosis/Belly Drum combo.
While we’re on the subject, I wonder what Gen 5 did for Politoed in terms of popularity. From zero to hero overnight with Drizzle, a lot more publicity that’s for sure.
I agree! Although I did vote for Lapras, I really like Poliwrath as well. I guess being placed against Gyarados/Blastoise/Vaporeon is a tough battle, as those are all super popular Pokemon.
Fellow Poliwrath voter ! I agree! It’s like an overdeveloped pollywog! Like from the biggest baddest bullfrog you could ever catch.
So far it would appear at this point that E4 generally agrees the favorite water type common from Gen 1 is Squirtle, no surprise there, with a big margin over Psyduck. Also absolutely 0 votes for poor Goldeen ![]()
Uncommons are probably pretty decided at this point, but in theory some votes could have Wartortle overtake Magikarp. I’m actually a little surprised by this one and I’d be curious to hear why Magikarp is the top of this list: better cards (Unikarp, Fan Club/Shining Magikarp)? better evolution line (if you’re a Gyarados fan)?
Blastoise is just barely taking the top spot (also not a surprise) but definitely tough competition against Gyarados.
This has been fun to watch, curious if more votes will change anything ![]()
Maybe the new Kanda Magikarp is too fresh in everyone’s heads ![]()
I personally voted for Magikarp because of its cards. I’m finding myself picking up a lot for my Pokemon In Water collection. It being so weak and then evolving into Gyarados is also memorable.
