I made this thread a couple years ago so everyone could help showcase that there are some great cards out there under $5, and to serve as a reminder you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a beautiful collection. It’s been a little bit since then, so thought it may be a good time to revisit the idea!
So, what is your favorite card that you can buy for under $5? You don’t need to own it

modern has absolutely crushed it lately. i realized that i don’t hate modern, i hated the boring and uncreative BW - XY era
additional note, i actually have this card sitting on my desk, and for $30 it sparks a lot more joy than its price would suggest.
i was pretty indifferent to poliwhirl, and i don’t really own any modern cards, so it’s cool to see how good art can change both of those really quickly.
my desk now has Anakin, Tatis, and Poliwhirl. incredible.
I’m picking up random EX era holos and reverse holos every now and then for a few dollars. A ton of great arts in these eras and really sweet reverse holo patterns. Some examples (grabbed some images from the internet):
i could name a large number of ARs, but one thing that blew my mind recently is you can pick up all 4 IRs from the new english holiday set for less than $5 shipped total on tcgplayer
thanks to everyone having silver borders now, I can finally take advantage of those moments when the english version is cheaper on non-textured cards.

I bought this 
for US$3.70 some time ago. Serious, not joking at all! Image is not mine though. Mine is still in its original sleeve. Hopefully when it stonk, I’ll send it for grading.
I had no idea that that Scizor card existed, and now it’s at the top of my “wants” list. Might have even progressed to “need” in the last 30 seconds since seeing this, if I’m being honest.
The art in modern is just crazy good! I love that it’s also affordable. So many great examples posted so far!
