Ex Sets Tier List (RESULTS)

I wonder if a few big chase cards are what mentally bumps up sets in some peoples minds. Like I dont think FRLG is that strong of a set but it does have a few big chase cards with the starters and gengar which is why its so popular maybe. And yea sandstorm doesnt have that big chase card, just a pretty solid roster of cards overall that make it a strong set to me.

FRLG is just popular cause its gen 1. Not much more to it, but thats all it really takes. To have that set at the same price as dragon is wild to me. Dragon is rarer and better in every way imo

When making my list, I tried to look at several overall factors (not in any order of priority):

Set theme
Quality and Quantity of Chase cards (ex and above)
Holos
Nostalgia
Reverse holo style

Ultimately, these factors didnt really manifest in the end result lol.

FRLG has an awesome reverse holo style

Edit: no idea why it got cropped like that

Agree on the lack of team owning ex cards. Huge miss. kinda funny with the mon repetiton though as most evil teams cycle the same 5 pokemon lol

My two cents. One of the greatest era’s we have seen. Even the weaker sets are quite good in the end.

I’m not going to say there are any truly bad Ex sets (even though TMTA comes close), but I was determined to use all the tiers.

I’m one of the weirdos that put Dragon & Sandstorm in the S-Tier. The beautiful art and set cohesion is arguably as good as Aquapolis & Skyridge, and the lack of Gold Stars helps to not overshadow the “smaller” quality cards in either set. Delta Species got there for the uniqueness of concept, and having a holofoil that pops way harder than any following set featuring DS Pokémon.

My ranking for TMTA is based mainly on the ass CGI artwork ruining a lot of cards in the set, that could’ve potentially otherwise looked as good as the Jirachi or Absol secret rares.

Overall though, we won with every set they released in this era!

The TMTA slander breaks my heart :sob:

FRLG is the closest we got to having a dud among the cosmos ex sets (except Power Keepers of course but at least that set has an excuse.) Even the booster art is shabby.

I considered theme, art, pokemon in the set, and pull cards. D is probably too low for RS. It’s honestly probably better than all the sets in C so I’m not even sure how it ended up down there lol. I am also happy to be one of the few Power Keepers lovers. It’s a nostalgia thing, idk.

I stand with you as a power keepers lover! Truly one of my favorites!

F tier should be the set with trio dogs :star:

:man_facepalming:

S tier is the set with the best gold stars, the best exes, and then the best main set
A tier is everything else with gold stars/deltas
B tier is everything else

i don’t think there is a single set that is bad from this gen
