Ebay is getting overrun by scammers trying to legitimize their scammery. Really bumming me out. Luckily itâs largely only for Charizard and I suppose the 3 starters for base set. If it were happening to all my beloved pokemon I might just die of a broken heart.

Newbie here trying to figure how how to tell real eBay listingz from fake. Could you explain more? Also whatâs the benefit of fake sellers creating these, if someone actually buys it wonât they just get a refund because the seller either wonât have the card or itâll be fake? Or is it to raise the price of the market in general

There are a lot of reasons. The âproxyâ (a loathsome euphemism) cards are flooding ebay. Someone made them on etsy or something. These people are trying to prey on the ignorant. Itâs like spam phone calls. Worth their time. If even 1 in 100 people fall for something it is worth their time.
Those proxy cards are very bad fakes and easy to tell. For one they donât even have a holo. It is just made to look holo. Thatâs as easy as it gets.
They are hoping the one person who buys it doesnât return or know their rights or something of that nature. Thereâs also scams regarding global shipping exploitation of the 30 return policyâthereâs many ways. They donât pay fees if they and a different friendâs account collude to shill bid, and the friend wins. Then they just cancel for full refund.

I donât really mind if thereâs not a condition description in the listing to begin with (although I certainly prefer that, since it adds some context to the photos). Iâm more griping about people who, when asked specifically to provide some subjective details on condition, wonât do it and instead say to ârefer to the photos.â

Thereâs hundreds of these listings for different cards. I report any I see, but search 1st edition charizard proxy and youâll find a ton of listings.
