eBay buyers with overly high expectations

@gottaketchumall - That Sucks! I would recommend calling eBay when you have an opportunity to see if you could get those removed; you might get lucky depending upon the eBay Rep. you get connected with… However, in this case, I don’t think that it’s a guarantee that you will get those removed - even though you very clearly state your specific handling-time and USPS shipping-time (still worth a shot though).

Now, don’t take this the wrong way (not trying to bash you or anything), but what is the deal with USPS Retail Ground??? Personally, I have never used this service - actually never knew it existed until a few weeks ago when I received something through this service. Is this service really that much cheaper - in this case, you sold 12 Cards - USPS First Class Mail with Tracking would have run me $2.63 with the shipping program I use. What was the cost of the USPS Retail Ground Service if you don’t mind me asking?

Coming from a buyer point of view, I purchased a large collection of Pokemon Cards a few weeks ago - granted the pricing was much higher than what you sold your cards for. However, the seller used USPS Retail Ground to mail my order - have to admit, I was pissed-off at how slow this service actually was! When I finally did receive the package, I saw that the seller paid more postage than what it would have cost to mail USPS Priority Mail - Large Flat-Rate Box!

Unless you’re talking a substantial savings between First Class / Priority Mail and Retail Ground, I really don’t see the point in this service.

I feel for ya @gottaketchumall so annoying.

I just got a negative because I won’t take back a set of cards. The buyer intentionally damaged one of the cards in order to bolster his item received not as described case. He took a pen and marked up the card and smeared the ink around. It was a very low value common from the set so the damaged card doesn’t really bother me. But not sure if there is any recourse for me on this one.

I talked to a US based eBay rep about the case for a bit before it was received back. She was nice and thoughtful so I didn’t tear into her too much but this was jist of what she told me: “I have to treat ebay like a storefront in a mall. Every business has some form of loss and I need to expect and accept that.” So I have to expect and accept that I’ll have to eat the shipping charges on various items due to buyers claiming item received not as described. Seems like a load of bullshit logic to me.

I did report the member to be investigated if he frequently opens item not received as described cases but there is no way I can see the outcome of that. The eBay rep did recommend I wait a little bit after receiving the item if I want to file an appeal to give extra time for them to investigate the member. So that’s what I’m doing now. May call again this weekend.

Anyone had to deal with a buyer that actually damaged an item in order to get a item not as described case decided in their favor?

@oldskoolpokemon I just checked back and the only reason I had mentioned USPS retail ground, is because that is what I thought I was selecting in my listings to get the right delivery time estimate. I actually found that I select “economy shipping” though which shows as 1-10 business days. USPS first class letter isn’t an option otherwise I would choose that.

I am simply mailing these out in a plain white stamped envelope with a 49 cent forever stamp. First class at $2.63 just can’t be done 100 times a week often on playsets of trainers as low as $1.69. Obviously a losing proposition on anything under $10.

@scratchdesk I am fairly sure I have had that happen in the past. Some damage had been done that given my packing methods would be nearly impossible to happen. It was my word against theirs though and I lost my case as well. No concrete evidence so it was just chalked up as a cost of doing business.

All of these experiences really deter me from selling online on ebay. :slightly_frowning_face:

As I live in Australia most items I purchase internationally take over two weeks. This person was obviously very ignorant to the fact that delays and other complications can occur even within the States. Whenever an item I order is over the estimated shipping date from eBay then if they haven’t specified when they ship and so on in their listing then I typically wait about a week or so over that estimated date before contacting the seller then proceed to give them 2 days to reply and only then will seek assistance from eBay when all else fails. It has only ever led to this happening once for me and I was fully refunded for all costs (never received my item obviously).

People need to learn to be more patient with their orders.

I’ve mentioned this before, but out of over 1000 sold items, I’ve only had trouble with 10 or less, and they were all untracked

there are definitely some horror stories out there, but generally selling on Ebay is stress and trouble free

You shouldn’t let them. I sell about 5,000 items a year at my current pace and only have 1 or so real issues a week. Echoing the same ~1% that @acebren is.
