Think my favorite part is that the games are affordable. Whether it’s the Ducks or Gulls games.

Avalanche and Denver University fan. Favorite players from the late 90’s, Peter Forsberg & Joe Salic. Moved to Minnesota so I get to see a lot of great hockey(all ages). I run into quite a few retired NHL players that live here.

I used o collect Hockey cards before Pokemon was a thing and hockey is kinda national sport in Finland so it was kinda no brainer when I was 5 years old or so. Teemu Selänne was the man and Anaheim Mighty Ducks was the team!
Back in mid 90’s me and my brother got to pick liiga packs (Finnish hockey league, cant remember if they were called liiga cards back then) and our grandma would buy them for us. Good times! Then Pokemon came and hockey was over for me but my brother didnt stop, eventually he played hockey quite seriously to his early to mid 20’s.

As I mentioned in the “non-Pokemon purchases” thread, I’ve been Flyers fan for as long as I can remember. Their 2010 cup run made a lasting impression on me despite the tragic ending 
I don’t have many hockey items in my collection, with the exception of this Lindros plaque I inherited from my dad and some random promotional game items I was gifted over the years. Peep that Chia Pet of iconic Flyers legend Ryan Ellis

That’s so cool! My buddies dad was Lindros’ first coach when he was 6 and bug E gave him some signed stuff when he made the league so we love Big E!! Classy guy!!

Lindros was a demon of a player, what an athlete. Cool thing about him is in 1992 the Flyers traded 5 guys and $15M to get him from the Nordiques, quite a trade!

Such a massive trade, it’s even got its own Wiki page! And with that move, the Flyers unknowingly cemented the legacy of the Colorado Avalanche
I wasn’t even alive when the trade happened, so I look back on the Flyers’ Big E (and Legion of Doom) era with rose-colored glasses. With the Flyers, the man played some of the best hockey in history up to that point, and he’s forever a legend in Philly. Though even I can’t help but wonder what the Flyers would’ve done in the 90s/00s if they kept Forsberg, Ricci, Hextall, their 1st round picks, etc…

Lindros is one of the biggest “what-ifs” in hockey history.
Could have been one of the all time greats with better health luck.
Oshawa Generals are my closest OHL team and I go to games there semi regularly (which he is famously one of the best to ever wear the sweater) so I’ve also got lots of love for Big E, despite only watching hockey for the latter parts of his NHL career.

I used to be a big fan of NHL and i still try to check the game results quickly every morning. Now my favourites have been Avalanche with Rantanen & Lehkonen but my all time favourite is Pekka Rinne in Nashville, still annoyed that he didn’t win the cup but at least he scored a goal! As a kid i collected hockey cards too but i have zero interest in it now, i was a big big fan of Selänne years ago but after his career he has had a lot of opinions and social media posts that i strongly disagree with so the idea of having a large collection of my favourite player only to discover that he’s a jerk is a scary idea.

My childhood home was relatively near to Lahti so always cheered for them 
i’ve never been huge finnish hockey fan but i did go to their games few times and even got some autographs

No wayyyy!! Haha one time my Canadian buddies and I went to Lahti for a game of Road Hockey! We always used the Pelicans jerseys for our Xbox Eashl team and we reached out to the team about getting jerseys because they didn’t ship to Canada at that time. They invited us down for a game of road hockey instead. This was 12 ish years ago we were like 19-20 and we played the Junior Pelicans in the parking lot of Isku Arena. It’s a core memory! Hannes Bjorninen scored on me and I’ll never forget it😂. The Hockey News did a little story on it and we looove the Pellis! That’s a cool connection my friend!

That’s a great story to have and i’m sure a wonderful experience, Björninen sounds like a fun guy what i’ve seen so i would probably brag about it for the rest of my life if he had scored on me you wrote a different origin story about it on that species collector thread but i’m sure this is the actual reason why you collect everyone’s favourite electric pelican
