But in all seriousness–I love them all. I have favorites of course–and I used to trash a few long ago, but now I appreciate what every original artist (the trilogy + Porygon’s fine art) brought to the table, shaping the aesthetic and imagery of Pokemon in card and art form, bringing them to life for the first time in a TCG, vibrant, each distinct, their sensibilities just perfectly assigned to each artist… love it all. This was and will forever be the first time these Pokemon were introduced in a uniform way, all together (at least with the soon-coming remainder in jungle and fossil), and so the origin shouldn’t be undermined in my opinion. You evolve from the core, not the other way around. I love Kinebuchi’s 90’s CG now more than ever. Unique style never replicated. Sugimori shall not be trashed under my watch! Visionary life-like explosion of work, making them 3D and real, breaking the 2D boundary. And Arita with his fine, fine landscapes and portalesque detail of backgrounds along with his fine-lined Mon’s. All breathtaking… all beautiful. Except Revive. What is up with Revive? Silly Card.

Surprised there’s not so much love for Tangela (specifically in shadowless colours)! Behind Dragonair, it’s my second favourite in the set. Absolutely magical tangled mess.

I’m confused as to why everyone else’s tierlists have so many cards. I can only remember one card being in base set

I know my tastes are kind of weird, but things that really define and make me love base set so much are the early CG arts and the knock-out Arita pieces. People with base set hate is something so strange to me, I get not having an attachment to it, but it really was beyond innovative and did things no other card games were doing at the time. Every time I really think about the ideas behind it and the art decisions I am blown away
