Does MBA deserve a higher premium or scam?

I was buying some WOTC cards and someone showed me these cards with a Diamond stamp on a PSA slab and BGS slab known as “MBA” and wanted higher than market on the same grade just because of the Diamond … Do they deserve higher premiums?

Absolutely not, that MBA sticker is cringe

It’s silly to me, I imagine an eBay listing title would look like this:

PSA 10 (Strong MBA gold, possible regrade to diamond!?) Fresh sticker (PSA 10 worthy sticker condition)

No. Buying one does not automatically give you the credentials of a Masters of Business Administration.

Nice thread title triple my boy, hopefully you find an MBA enjoyer who is offended

Given Mr Baker’s big claim is being one of the first PSA graders, and in the early days PSA didn’t know a chorizo from a churrasco, I don’t give it much weight in the pokeman world.

I guess it depends on the condition of the card.

Hmm interesting, yeah it sees pretty niche but getting very popular recently. I see it a lot at events and ig

I was born with eyes of my own, I dont need someone to look at a card in hard plastic casing telling me if it meets a standard that it was already assigned or not.

The sticker idea is borrowed from coins, where it does carry a premium. I think this is due to the fact that coin grading has more increments than trading cards.

CAC does add that premium in coins, agree. A metal surface can have much more variation in eye appeal than a trading card, so get the value prop a bit more there.

I thought about doing the sticker for trading cards years ago, but especially at the time, mint cards were readily available. Maybe years from now if mint supply is drier there might be more of a need.

If that’s the case then it’s long overdue. It’s a fairly attractive little sticker and it adds exclusivity. It’s not like a second opinion is redundant in this scenario and the guy that allots it supposedly has more streetcred than your average William Bucket at x grading company.

I would pay big dollars for my slabs to be graced with these stickers

I would go into bad debt for those stickers

sure why not? They are already paying a premium for a magic slip of paper with a number as it is. Why not pay more for a magic sticker with a little diamond on it?

Vintage sports and coins are cool for stickers. 2025 pokemon cards are silly

I like it.
But since I don’t really care for condition, I would never be swayed to buy one.
I would potentially get a card stickered by them if I were looking for top value.

Not a scam per se, as you are getting what you paid for (i.e., an independent party appraising the grade from the grading company).

But I find them cringe and don’t believe that they should add value to a card. Buyers should purchase cards that align with their own expectations for each grade. There is too much variance within each grade to blindly trust the numeric value, but adding another person’s opinion doesn’t magically solve it either.

Not that long ago we had a seller advertising a CRC “reconfirmed” 10 to show prospective buyers that PSA still believes that their Base 2 Chorizo is in 10 condition. I could imagine this practice taking off with high-end vintage PSA 10 cards.
