Does anyone else feel that Hyper Rare artworks are boring?

Gen 7 TCG is a humongous drag because of every single set having 30+ secret rares and looking at the trend the series has followed of adding more and more “chase” since Gen 4, it’s only going to get even worse in Gen 8. I don’t know how, but they’ll find a way and maybe it’ll make me quit collecting for good. What is the incentive to even buy a booster box anymore? I started doing that back in Gen 4 when you could buy one box and get 90% of a set, not the whole thing but enough to make it feel worthwhile even if the value of the cards within were junk. Now if we are lucky we can get one (or zero!) of the 30+ super shinies in any given set by buying a $90 booster box with 36 packs.

Is the strategy even working that well? I’m noticing the TCG is dragging out more and more Waifus & Charizard every set now, which feels more like a desperate way to drum up sales than a franchise that’s actually on an upswing. There’s a few collectors who enjoy the challenge of dropping $1000+ every 3 months to complete a set but most are broken and/or disinterested. Especially where there’s videos of Youtube channels opening 1000+ packs of Unbroken Bonds and still not even completing the set.

exactly my sentiment. especially the zard waifu comment. if i buy modern its japanese because at least the sets are comtained. english has just gotten silly.

There are far too many secret rates in SM. I can only hope in gen 8 they decrease the amount of secret rates, alternate the artwork and increase the rarity of the SR, maybe have 1 or 2 secret rates per set and make the pull rate like 1/500 packs.

Hyper Reshizard is likely 1/936 packs.

1/26 FASupp-Hyper-Secret pull per box, 36 packs per box

The hypers just need to become something like the beautiful alternate art we’ve seen instead of rainbow.

I posted this elsewhere but meant to post it here;

I will say, for me personally I still think pulling a secret rare is exciting-- that is, I’d rather keep trying to pull the card instead of buying it outright, even if the cost doesn’t match up.

However I agree that there are too many “secret” “hyper” rares which cheapens it…and yes it is boring finding the same art work just in rainbow

Sadly hyper rares are boring yet I keep buying them cuz im mesmerized by shiny shit. It could partially be because of my daughter lol, sparkles this and that.

I think in a way the Ultra Shiny GX set did it right with the actual coloring of the cards that are distinct by each Pokemon.

More chase cards are good imo. However I feel like they need to up the pull rate of the hypers and put more alternate arts in the full art slot.

If anything the pull rates for rares need to go down so it means something to pull a ultra super secret hyper RARE.
