I will add the Blaine´s Moltres to that. I also agree, Heroes has the less impressing Pokémon, but the better art.
Not a fan of Ken Sugimori stock art on cards or cards with stock photo backgrounds. Also not a fan of most cgi artworks, i.e the regular or fullart GX, V, ex etc. cards. That said, the art on modern regular, IR and SIR cards is great for the most part and I do like the texture effects.
But vintage also had some really good artworks.
So I also think that this boils down to individual artists and not the era. Though modern in general is able to draw from a larger wealth of artists and the share of “high effort” artworks also seems to be much higher in modern.

I honestly love both. For me art is art and i will be drawn to certain styles in both eras, and dislike certain styles in both eras.
I feel like the main thing that sets vintage apart is that for the most part all cards were on equal footing because they were all half art. So even something that wasnt a super popular mon could shone just through the art.
That is impo still the case today but i feel that largely all the effort has been moved to FA, IR and SIRS and that the traditional half art cards have taken a back seat.
Now that’s not to say that their are not amazing half art cards, there are and some of em are my absolute faves (just had a new binder page idea) but i feel they get grossly overlooked compared to the new hype cards and that in some instances tha card art suffers. For me this is most apparent in the reuse of the same half art across multiple sets.
As for the new standard of full illustration cards i love the premise cause anything that gives a artist more space to work is great but some are too busy and just not well done.

Modern bulk art is underrated, but i would say Vintage still has the best artists all around. Some of whome didn’t seem to stick around long. Also, early Digital art is just unmatched peak. Same goes for YGO
Refuse to answer the poll on principle. There is no such difference. You’re basically asking do you like these bunch of artists or these bunch better? Except for the fact that many artists cross over into both and most of those never even changed their styles.

Artist definitely has a bearing on my choices, and while I admire some of the modern such as SIR and Full Art’s, a lot of the others get a little ‘busy’ for me overall.
I like cards from all eras except base set jungle fossil.
But modern is objectively superior. Not because of framing or technique
But thanks to the artistic freedom given by TPC to the illustrators. Modern cards are allowed to tell a lot more story and have more intent compared to their predecessors.
You can literally spend 10min looking at this card working your imagination to figure out what’s going on, that is wether you like it or not, a superior proposition to what came before.

The artstyle on many modern cards is amazingly well done but I miss old cards’ layouts, borders (yellow, holo on ex-cards, e-series…) and proper holo patterns. These play bigger role for me when it comes to cards than just art and that itself makes the art somewhat more memorable.

Vintage has a lot of my favorite art, but there are quite a few modern I love. But who doesn’t appreciate this awesome vintage gloom!? Something about vintage drawings speak to me.

I respect your opinion (which it is, despite presenting it as ´objective´), but the same can be said about a lot of vintage cards. And even if you disagree with that (there is indeed usually more going on in modern cards), that doesn´t equal greatness. There are a lot of other factors and a lot of people like vintage art better exactly because there is less going on.
What I also think some miss in vintage is that the background with holo brings a lot of abstract beauty. People that mostly grew up with modern might miss this, as you have to look at the card in person to really appreciate this.

I’ve voted modern, since I think they’re killing it with most of the FA alt arts and CHR and such.
I’ve also never been a big fan of Ken Sugimori’s artworks on irl backgrounds to begin with, which vintage has a lot of - even though I do like the Gym Heroes/Challenge sets regardless, and his general art style as well, tbf. I guess it’s mostly Ken Sugimori’s Base/Jungle artworks I don’t like too much, despite the huge nostalgic factor. I hugely prefer Ken Sugimori’s full’ish artworks, like Pokémon Breeder Fields; Shining Gyarados; Town Volunteers; etc.
Having said that, I totally agree with @eevee:
There are cards I love and cards I don’t like too much in every set across all eras and years. So for me I’d always like both vintage and modern, and everything in between.

Modern cards have more story individually, card-per-card. But we have yet to see a set with a strong theme/story besides what we’ve already gotten in the games.
I think Legend maker - Dragon frontiers personally had the best sense of worldbuilding, giving us an all new region to explore through opening the packs. Modern seems incapable or unwilling to give us story experiences like this

Dont mistake me i also love old cards, nowadays that’s almost exclusively what i am collecting.
But it would make no sense for the card artworks to have reached their last degree of refinement right from the getgo. That’s not how any produce of human imagination works.
Take any era of music or painting or cinema, any invention for that matter, things get refined over time and the earlier pioneers work allow subsequent artists to build upon it until a peak is reached.
For the theme, yes obviously old sets were more entizing and coherent. Can’t wait for TPC to build us storied sets again. Miracle of the Desert
