I was wondering if there are collectors in here whom enjoy acquiring battle scarred pokemon cards? Like SV49 can be acquired on ebay for $150+ after it has been ‘damaged’. Was it from a tournament, child play, or sometimes you look at the card and can’t help but wonder what the heck happened?
Each card has it’s own story to tell. Clearly it did not go through the washing machine but where did that fuzz from the bottom come from? These damaged cards make great conversation pieces, fit in the binder with about 10% of the bottom foil flaking outward, and they just pop out at you.
It’s not a bad purchase at $150-$250 if you don’t want to pay $400+ for mint versions, you know?
Do you enjoy bent cards, ripped edges, etc? Just for collecting purely, outside of the slabs.
It doesn’t have to be a nice crisp bend, but just creases everywhere. Use it to show your friends.
Does a damage card deserve a premium if it expresses an artistic touch, acquired from experience and play?
I pay well above the highest psa grades for a nice battered copy. It only comes with age and appreciation. You just can’t get that feeling straight out of a pack.
It’s such a great experience meeting others in the pokemon community, reviewing their binders from their childhood, and maybe throwing in one of those “what the heck happened” to get smiles and open conversation about collecting pokemon cards. I get it, I was young too and will make space for your card. Never forget their faces. Rather then be like “nope, i want the best mint cards”, I reward them some $ for their time and holding the cards. Never forget their faces.
I picked up a damaged base set zard today - which likely was a young childs prized card back in 1999, the energy I can feel it emanate is amazing, wouldn’t pay a premium of any sort for that energy though
I think the important thing to remember is that leonardo lived another day to be appreciated. It’s a good thing he played dead so well and got off so easy.
I have some damaged cards from ex era if y’all want to buy them haha. They are from a few sellers version of (light played). Even in my binder i can’t stand a creased card. Unless it’s one of those baby crease’s barely noticeable. I’ve recieved a few cards that looked like they were folded in half. Then seller put card under a book to flatten it out. Just horrible look. Cards don’t have to be PSa 10 but I have too much pride in my collection to purposely collect heavy played/damaged cards
@mcorey777, Mike, The sales pitch could be a bit more enticing, but due to forum selling policy, your opportunity to make a Andrew Jackson or Abraham Lincoln(s) is a no go.
It was a joke. But plan is ill eventually get around to listing all 3 creased ones as a lot. I also received a very nice light played card. But I flipped it over and for some reason it had a S written on it in permanent marker. So I’ll have to replace that one as well. It just sucks when it happens by accident. In some senerio I’m buying one of maybe 2 or 3 of the card on the market. And once I recieve the destroyed card there’s no more listed in light played or better
