Beautiful Cards Ruined...

Such a shame when you see something like this (feel free to post ones you come across):

Still beautiful imo.

I wouldn’t call that ruined. It was loved.

This looks pretty good compared to the cards I had growing up… I liked to bite the corners off

Looks well played with by a kid. Which is why the card exists.

One of the things that humbled me two summers ago was seeing a couple of kids showing each other their Pokemon cards. They had them in huge stacks stuck in their pockets, rainbow rares mixed in with commons while they traded. I remember my brain going “NOOOOOO! THEY SHOULD HAVE THEM SLEEVED OR IN TOPLOADERS AT THE LEAST!” but then I remember how I thought of them as a kid - I used to keep my cards in stacks exactly like that until I had access to toploaders, sleeves, binders, etc.

I understand the sense of it being a “ruined” card - we all want that 1st Edition Charizard in pristine condition in one way or the other. But I still prefer to think of it as “well loved” like many people here already said. Besides, at the end of the day, someone who has less of a chance to get that pristine card now suddenly has a higher chance of at least getting a played copy.

Cards were ment to be played. I will argue a gem mint card is a boring one and a shame haha

“The card has some light scratching but is otherwise in near mint-mint condition”

Nahh this card is just well loved.

This card is ruined:

I’ll see myself out.

This 100%. There is nothing more thrilling that arguing over a white dot on a card encased in ugly bulky plastic…

True that. Thank you all above. I guess I was more in the mindset of strictly collecting but yes the the love of the game is what it’s all about

Memories are priceless

Nothing beats a kid’s charizard that saw battle. King of the playground status

Not ruined, just post it as a 1-of-1 autograph from your kid. Record sale guaranteed haha

this may sound silly but I actually enjoy damaged cards. idk what it strokes in my brain, but as long as things aren’t absolutely horrid or ruined it adds a sort of appeal I can’t describe

I actually desperately need this card in this condition to complete my base set binder :,(

it’s on eBay right now. $3500. Go get it!

People tend to forget… one of the main reasons that mint cards go for such a premium is because people never thought these would be worth money. People didn’t hoard sealed product. Originally collectible
