I recently got back into the tcg around the time of unified mind’s release. I didn’t really pay attention to value of the unified minds singles at release but I’ve been looking at CE and the values just look… really low? Like I just saw someone sell an AA Arceus, Dialga, and Palkia for $13, and I see that tcgplayer already has the rainbow variant up for $18
Also seen the other chase cards like Braxizard rainbow up for $72 on tcgplayer and Rosa full art already at $30
I might be overreacting but for a set that literally released yesterday, these just seem like really low prices right out the gate
edit : btw this is a good thing because a lot of the cards look amazing in this set and it’s always cool to have accessibility but I’m just kinda curious as to why these prices are what they are lol
I think it’s a combination with so many people recovering from going all in of HF and I’m not sure there are any really meta changing cards in the set but I admit I’m a little out of the loop on that.
And all Pokemon cards and products are hype driven not just modern although it is the biggest offender and has easily the biggest downward pricing swing once the next big thing is out.
Again hype driven. Black label Hidden Fates zard, Reshizard, all hype. The true demand was not at that level. That’s why the prices dropped tenfold. Don’t really want to hear about supply. Supply now would be categorized as much too available and out the butt. Hype like this temporarily chumps supply and demand theory. Way too many lurking variables for anyone to claim otherwise with these brand new cards that are worth a few bucks.
Cosmic Eclipse lacks of ‘‘The Chase’’ Card. Braixen isn’t as popular as other Pokemon like Reshiram (wich was paired with Charizard as a Tag Team in UBO).
People were thirsty for packs since Hidden Fates was printed ‘‘on the low’’.
The amount of packs being opened on the first few days ended up with prices plummeting, supply going over demand and cards that were ‘‘supossed’’ to be valuable ended up crashing.
To me, Cosmic Eclipse has the same feeling as when we went from Shining Legends to Crimson Invasion. I still get excited when I see Hidden Fates on the shelf, even with tanking prices. I feel nothing when I look at Cosmic Eclipse.
I couldn’t agree more. I feel like Hidden Fates should have been the set to end S&M and close this series out with a bang, instead we get this weak ass set. After tappin that Hidden Fates, Cosmic Eclipse feels kinda like slummin to me, sorry I can’t do it. Its like going from Megan Fox to Janet Reno…you guys feel me on this?
Prices look normal to me for a new set. It’s an extremely large set with a lot of playable cards. Not really comparable to hidden fates that was nothing but rotated, recoloured hype fueled by a large but staggered release. Braixen is less playable than reshiram(often 1 copy) and charizard fatigue is likely setting in with the chari-hype-boys.
That may be true but I don’t think the word playable or playability should ever be used when discussing pokemon. IMO, pokemon was never designed to be a playable TCG. Its a TCG that has playable elements but thats about it.
It seems to me more like Pokemon is focusing more on the playable game than the collecting side. Sets don’t feature a lot of particularly collectible content. I think Cosmic Eclipse and Hidden Fates have done a great job making collectible cards, but TPCI still prints them until they’re worth nothing. New sets seem mostly focused on being playable, and playability drives the market more than anything right now when it comes to new sets (except, of course, with graded cards)
We went from reprints of the same ugly full arts(the chase card of the set being by far the worst… I can’t believe this one is as popular as it is) to some actual nice cards. Braxizard rainbow is actually really nice, Rosa FA, Tag team supporter FAs, Creation trio Alternate art is amazing, continuation of the cool alternate art cards, character cards, etc.
That’s not to say Hidden Fates is bad, I did like some of the cards like Cynthia FA(mostly because of the shiny lucario in the card) but at the same time, I don’t even think the cards are better than Cosmic Eclipse’s… and it’s supposed to be a collector set lol
They can really call anything a collectors set cant they. It’s not like they won’t print as many as there is demand. They really don’t seem to have much regard for the secondhand market or collectors at this point
They don’t call anything that but the late release of the shiny versions made it pretty much that.
There’s lots to collect. The last few sets have been insanely large. They do not and should not care if you can resell your reshizard a few years from now and make money.
While I don’t think they have any responsibility to acknowledge the secondhand market, I do think they should acknowledge the collecting scene. Pokemon America does very little for their collectors.
Exactly, the Japanese side of things are so great for collectors. Cards like the limited Lillies, Masked royales, etc. are such cool cards for collectors
Even on that side though, it feels like they used to do a lot more for collectors. I mean from WOTC to the ADV series, they had so many competitions and promos they did from competitions to random card giveaways in magazines
Alternate art cards are a step in the right direction as far as collecting goes but I would love for them to do more, although I also don’t think a 1st edition stamp will solve anything with modern releases
