To put it nicely, you will have a hard time finding anyone who will pay a premium for an old slab. If anything, people prefer the new slab look and the design protects cards better. You may actually need to sell this at a discount to market price of current slabs. Unfortunately, this will not be the pot of gold you were hoping for.
If I had the worlds first ever printed buzzwole, you know how many people would pay a premium? Like 3, and I’m one of them.
You gotta put it in perspective, you’re listing a pretty common card for more than 100x market price because it was graded a long time ago? That’s absurd. No slab would demand that much of a markup unless it was the first Beckett pokemon slab ever maybe. A collector of 20 years shouldn’t be that out of touch unless you haven’t bought in 20 years.
Dang. Thank you chansey guy. I really appreciate the information I was looking for. Well there goes that idea.
Man you guys are pretty harsh to each other on here.
I am a consistent collector. I have bought/sold and traded for 20 years but I am only now starting to get involved in the “community”.
And from what I can tell a lot of guys on here are just plain mean to each other.
For a guy like me just asking a question?
I was called an egg boy and insulted like 3 times. Haha.
If you want to be the very best, you have to have the spirit of a true Pokémon master guys and care for each other.
Not act like a bunch of team rocket grunts
Thank you to everyone who has helped out with this question. I’m off.
Please understand that some of the info you requested seems negligible to many of us to distinguish. E4 can be harsher towards posts like these because we get a lot of new members who seem to be more interested in making a dime and what constitutes as a selling point rather than sharing in their love of the hobby. Reducing the collection to a numbers game can grate on a lot of people, even when it isn’t your intention and even when a lot of what we research does focus on money aspects. To reiterate, I know you’re not reducing this to a numbers game and it seems you’re passionate at the very least about collecting, just saying that this post mirrors a lot of what we see from newer members who seem more concerned about money than actively engaging in the hobby.
The egg thing is a meme from the discord. Don’t take it personally as we’ve all been called eggs at some point. Even those of us who have been collecting for 20 odd years, myself included.
If you want to get a sense of the positives around this forum, I highly recommend you look at the Collections tab and explore there. Maybe even show us what you have after 20 years!
The average Pokemon card collector won’t put a premium on it; they just want a graded 9, they don’t care when it was graded. Honestly, I think it might actually be valued slightly less since PSA-minded collectors may just flat out not be interested. Personally, I’d rather a PSA or CGC over BGS.
A very small subset of collectors may value the card more because of when it was graded, however that market is miniscule. You need to find someone that wants that card over the numerous other graded 9s on the market, and cares about the date it was graded. I’m sure that person is out there, but the amount of work in marketing the card to find that specific buyer is high
There’s a market for everything, I’m sure there’s someone out there who collects/prioritizes early graded cards. That being said, I can’t imagine them putting a premium of more than a few bucks on it
Probably just depends on the buyer… is there someone who specifically is looking for older graded BGS cards? I haven’t seen any. But if they’re out there, keep it on ebay for months and you’ll see if you get any bites. If not, chances are you’re overpricing for something that likely won’t sell
I think you just disliked the feedback that’s all. It has plenty of sentimental value to you. That’s great and it’s probably 90% of incentive for most collectors. Unfortunately, that sentiment stays with you for that early graded card in particular. Leaving the rest of the collecting population with a nice Nintedo error mew
I think there is a difference between calling someone an egg boy as a joke and rubbing something in someone’s face. I imagine @yaghma knows what they are going to do, probably decided that before they listed the item. No point in antagonizing/humiliating. Everything is a learning experience and I imagine @yaghma can see how some users here where right.
