So going through some stuff to prep for a sub, and I notice these 2 GXes from Cosmic Eclipse. I actually remember pulling these from the same pack and noticing something was off but forgot to ever look closer lol… so is this considered miscut even though they are true to the standard size, or they’re considered misprints? And does PSA grade these normally, or they get categorized as misprints/cuts? Or is it just HORRIBLE centering lmao and not an error and these are PSA 1 candidates?
PSA might give OC
or PSA 5 lmao
I’m guessing something that drastic would be OC, you can’t even see any silver on the top edge. I think the way it works is that with OC they give you a grade the card would normally get, and then take 1 away for OC. So PSA 9 OC would be a 10 otherwise, but is a 9 because of the OC.
@casual, @jonbo, thank you both! Yeah it’s pretty excessive, I don’t see how this is not considered off centered lol
These are not miscuts. It’s confusing because miscuts means a card is not cut right, like it missed the cut, but that’s just one of the 2 things that make a card a “miscut”. The second is another card MUST be visible, so if you can’t see a second card, it’s not a miscut, it’s just an offcentered card and NOT a misprint at all. Hope that helped.
One factor that hasn’t yet been mentioned is whether or not the back is miscut. If the back is well-centered and the front is off-center, then the card is technically a misprint. Meaning that the sheet was misaligned when the front face side was printed. If the back is also off-center in the same way, then it’s a miscut, since the sheet was misaligned when it was being cut. This is a common topic of discussion in the MTG misprint/miscut community. At least there, misprints are MUCH more valuable because of NFC cards. Though I’m not sure how much of a topic of concern this is for Pokemon collectors.
That/s what I was thinking, because everything about the card is standard. The size and the back look perfect, it’s just the front side that looks like the sheet wasn’t aligned properly. I’ve attached the backs.
Yup, yours are definitely misprints. Not sure if they’re more valuable than normal versions, though, since they aren’t that extreme. Might be enough to get an OC grade, though.
THe psa rules about miscuts and off center cards are iirc:
A card is miscut if you can see the black alignment dot or another card. A card is off center if the condition of the card will make it go to a lower grade because of the centering, so lets say this card is a psa 9 in all aspects except for centering, you will get a 9(OC) grade.
It is also important to note that these qualifiers cannot be given to psa 10 cards.
