Do holo bleed Cards Deserve a Premium?

I know it depends on the set as some sets like secret wonders seem to be mostly holo bleeds and neo rev is a lot more scarce than that. But some of the in between sets I am not sure on, Like expedition and skyridge don’t seem to have too many bleeds but then again Idk if anyone cares for those bleeds

I know I am in the minority with my opinions on print lines (I don’t mind them) but if print lines devalue a card, holo bleed shouldn’t increase the value. THey are both factory defects in the printing process

But print lines detract from the cards look where as the holo is what makes rare cards rare in some cases so more holo is usually a good thing

Holo bleed being scarce isn’t really a thing, because it wasn’t intended to be a sign of scarcity in the first place. It’s more along the lines of a factory error. Personally, I don’t think it should increase the value of a card.

It entirely depends on the individual. Some people will pay more for holo bleeds. Some don’t care. It’s completely subjective.

when it comes to neo rev its pretty obvious that they go for more, but those seem to be super bloody

Error cards are desirable depending on the error. Holo bleed, unlike print lines, is a desirable error.

There was a time that errors were seen purely by a vast majority of people as defects and undesirable with only a few people enjoying them. Now that narrative seems to have switched where even “OC” stuff is viewed as an error and grants a premium.

To answer the question - does it deserve a premium? I agree with @mjs61290. Sure, if that’s your thing. If it’s not, then no. I also think it’s very subjective. I’ve spent a premium on errors before - but only because they appealed to my sense of what’s deserving. I like holo-bleeds. I don’t care for “miscuts” unless they’re vastly miscut, though with exception to modern stuff because it just seems so common now - it feels like English prints just don’t care about the intention of print quality.

For me, cards with holo bleed are hit or miss. If it’s very apparent and distracts from the rest of the card, I’d probably pass on it. However, I’ve seen some cards with holo bleed that actually enhances the card, and I would be happy to have those. I still wouldn’t pay a premium.

I don’t think print lines do hence why I said my opinion wont be popular

Just check out the Neo Rev ones (quite scarce in first edition) and you tell me!

What makes the cards from Neo Revelation with holo bleed especially desirable? I haven’t heard anything about them.

Those are more double holo than holo bleed

I see. Were they printed with an extra foil layer or is it something particular about the foil used for those cards?

I view holo bleed, print lines, ink dots/stains, miscuts, and grey stamps all in the same category: factory errors.

None of them are desirable to me. I want cards which are as close as possible to the original design.

With that said, out of everything listed the holo bleed is the least problematic to me. I would never pay more for a card with holo bleed, but I also wouldn’t pay less.

I guess I’m just not an error card collector. I collect sets, and one-off errors don’t fit nicely into that category. Also, error card values are too subjective in an already subjective market. I prefer sticking to mainstream cards printed close to the way they were supposed to be printed. Of course there are enough people who disagree, which is why holo bleed cards and other error cards do command a premium in the market.

I also think that a premium depends on the card. This is probably my favorite example of a holo bleed I’d pay a premium for. Those eyes!

I had that one, it’s pretty awesome

How could you ever let such a beautiful card go?

Some do. Most probably don’t in my opinion

Like others have mentioned, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I think holo bleed in sets like Secret Wonders enhance the card (Charizard and Mew come to mind), but Sun & Moon era holo bleed is absolutely atrocious imo. That said, would I pay more for holo bleed I like or less for holo bleed I dislike? No, but some people might. It’s all subjective. There’s nothing wrong with thinking holo bleed makes a card look better and paying a premium for it if you enjoy it!
