Tri was pretty garbage. It’s what happens when writers think anything targeted at an adult audience has to be dark and edgy. I enjoyed seeing the Adventure kids grown up, but hated the melodrama, rushed plot points and focus on the new sad-bait character.

I’d recommend starting with the original Digimon Adventure or Digimon Tamers in Japanese (the English dubs have not aged well and changed a lot of things to be less faithful to the source).

Haven’t heard anything about microtransactions for Time Stranger. I think it’s more people complaining about overpriced DLC, which is valid.

I’m DLC’s biggest opp. I have a long memory when it comes to videogames and the whittling down of things. I will put the OG show on in japanese sometime. I know the localization took a lot of liberties.

Last year I watched DiscoTek’s blu-ray release of Digimon Adventure in Japanese and really enjoyed it! I have the 02 Blu-Ray but haven’t started it yet. I’m really excited for the Tamer’s blu-ray to release because that was my favorite Digimon series as a kid. My brother and I would watch it every morning when they had reruns on. For some reason, when there was like 3 episodes left, the TV station dropped Digimon for a Spider-Man cartoon so I never got to see how it ended.

I’m also excited to watch Tamers in Japanese because Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice of Goku, voices Guilmon.

I also purchased Time Strangers for PS5 since it was on sale. Excited to check that out eventually

Tamers is also my favourite Digimon series (tho Adventure isn’t far behind)! I rewatched it over the Christmas break and it was phenomenal how well-composed it is for a children’s show (same writer as Serial Experiments Lain, with many similiar ideas and early 2000s viewpoints exploring digital technology). I also got to finally see how it ends, not because the episodes weren’t aired here, but rather because the D-Reaper gave me nightmares as a kid (it still creeps me out) and I was too scared to watch the finale.

Masako Nozawa’s voice acting is a huge treat. I didn’t even know it was her until Guilmon becomes Dukemon/Gallantmon, and then you really hear the Goku!

Realized I never posted the “hits” from my booster box! Each box comes with a set rate of 3 SRs (super rares)

One of two secret rares OR an alt art (I got a secret rare)

And a rare in each pack that didn’t have the above. Over the past few years the SRs have been bumped up to textured and the rares are now foil instead of gold-bordered, but I do think these look nice

As well, I picked up a booster box 02, also from 2020. This is when they introduced the last 2 colours into the game: purple and black.

Like a lot of folks here, I grew up with the original Digimon Adventure. I enjoyed it a lot and remember being absolutely floored when we got WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon (since at the time everyone though Perfect/Ultimate was the highest stage).

I recently discovered that special serialized cards of both WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon were relased last year with Special Booster 2.5, with only 300 copies total of each printed in English. The art was phenonenal for both, showing the full evolutionary line in the background. It’s probably why I love the Mega Evolution cards like Mega Gardevoir and Mega Charizard X, because the art direction is so similar.

Anyway, long story short, I wanted to get both of these cards eventually so I checked around at my LGS and to my surprise they had the MetalGarurumon! Some more searching around later and I was able to locate the WarGreymon from a different store.

The absolutely incredible thing was both copies I found just so happened to have matching serial numbers (201/300)! I knew at that point it was meant to be and bought both cards. They are absolutely gorgeous in person!

If you know anything about Digimon, you will understand the significance of the matching numbers. WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon fuse together to become Omegamon (Omnimon), so having them match like this couldn’t be more perfect.

Easily the most excited I’ve been collecting in a long time. With the Pokemon market filled with so much noise and inaccessible prices, these two cards brought so much joy to me and were the perfect way to kick off 2026.

Finally sat down and opened up this box of booster-02, Ultimate Power. This is when black and purple were introduced to the game so there are lots of “dark” digimon in the set. I already have a box of booster-03 ready to go, but I’ll wait until next month to open it

I got the Black Wargreymon as my secret rare, although I wanted the Beelzemon, but it’s okay!

Each box has 3 guaranteed super rares, but I got very lucky and pulled 4!

And here are a few of the rares that I really liked (there’s one rare in each pack that didn’t contain any of the above)

It’s finally time to unveil part of my Digimon card binder! I know both @johto and @Drew12 have been wanting to see this for a while. It’s still a work in progress as I’m always discovering new cards, but I’ve gotten it to a point that I feel happy showing it off.

For the first part of my binder, I decided to focus on specific Digimon TCG artists that I like.

As’Maria

One of the mainstays of the modern Digimon TCG. As’Maria is responsible for designing many of the ‘X-Antibody’ Digimon and his art can best characterized by his soft watercolor palettes, detailed armor and green light-emitting objects. To me, his style is very evocative of 70s/80s mecha promotional artwork, which can be best seen in the Magnamon (X Antibody) below (my personal favourite card of his).

Moto Takeuchi (竹内基)

Moto Takeuchi is a newer TCG illustrator who got started by winning the 2023 Digimon Illustration Contest. His artstyle is clean and modern with dynamic poses and vibrant colours. There’s just something incredibly aesthetically pleasing about looking at cards he’s illustrated.

Kenji Watanabe (渡辺 けんじ)

Kenji Watanabe is basically the “Ken Sugimori of Digimon” in that he was one of the main designers for a lot of classic Digimon, including the original 1999 TCG. His art style is straightforward but characterized by his signature black line art. Digimon as a franchise wouldn’t have existed without him and his artwork is easily the most recognizable to people who grew up with the franchise in the late 90s/early 2000s.

It’s been a joy discovering new Digimon TCG artists and tracking down their cards to build a curated binder. Reminds me of the period of time when I first got back into Pokemon card collecting. While the modern Digimon TCG doesn’t have the same breadth of history (given that it only began in 2020), it’s still filled with tons of fantastic artwork and character designs at accessible price points.

Next binder update will be focused on specific Digimon that I am “species collecting”. Please look forward to that :slightly_smiling_face:

Wooohooo! Fantastic cards! My favourite is the Watanabe seraphimon, I haven’t picked it up yet, but definitely on my list. Do you have the machinedramon from bt-2? It’s also As’Maria and one of my fav illustrations. As’Maria is sooo good

Yepp, got that one and it’s fantastic. Glad to see you are a fellow As’Maria appreciator!

The Kenji Watanabe Seraphimon is gorgeous as well. I saw it and couldn’t believe it was a $2 card, especially with the texture.

Join us! Just about every card I’ve shown was between $1 - $20 NM (besides Magnamon X Antibody and BlackWarGreymon ACE).

Bandai gonna Bandai. All Digimon eventually become Gundams (or hot women) in their final evolutions.

Gundam Exia / Aerial enters the chat

Looks like modern Digimon is finally getting some love :slightly_smiling_face: .

Let me share the most prized from my modern Digimon collection: MetalGreymon - Championship 2021 Finals Trophy.

Only 4 copies were distributed in English, along with 1 copy distributed in Japanese.

There is also another variant of the same artwork with inverted colors, which was awarded at the Digimon Card Game World Championship 2021 (the first Worlds), with only 1 copy in existence.

I’ve always been drawn to a game’s competitive scene, so having this card feels special to me as it represents a small but meaningful piece of that history.

That’s amazing, congrats! Seems you have quite an extensive Digimon collection and have been a fan for a while!

Some of the earlier years of the modern TCG seemed to have really low distribution for trophy cards compared to now. Even the Top 8 cards were quite limited given the number of events that were run.

The nice thing is they’ve extended prize cards to top 32 and higher with more events, so a lot of the TCG history is still readily available.

New to the thread. I love Digimon but have always been hesitant about the TCG. For some reason I don’t feel like I have a connection to it like I do Pokemon. Did any of y’all have that feeling? I think I’m just scared that I’ll open a pack and be disappointed somehow, so if I never open a pack, then I’ll never be disappointed
