I don’t see any specifics in the rules of the forum about deleting posts. What is the reasoning for deleting a post? Do all mods have the authority to delete posts? Can we consider moving posts to another thread instead of deleting them completely?
The initial person who started the off-topic conversation literally requested to remove the conversation.
Mods will and should remove any type of off-topic conversation. Especially when that conversation is accusatory and entirely incorrect.
If you’re talking about the posts in the GAT thread (GA thread?) then that was my fault. I made a post without knowing enough about the inner workings of the forum and it ultimately lead to a minor derailment of the discussion. I requested for the posts to be removed, but yours was sandwiched between mine so I guess it got gobbled up with them.
I think we know why those posts were deleted
It makes sense in this situation to the delete the posts then (if requested by an member). However, I think it would be valuable to consider moving off topic conversations to new threads instead of deleting. If the posts contain incorrect information, that information can be corrected by a response from one of the mods.
My b
I Genuinely wish I had that kind of time.
Looks like I missed something juicy
I think it makes sense to move messages into a thread only if a thread for it already exists (which has been done before via @fourthstartcg 's handiwork). I think what we can do as members is be mindful of when we might be going off topic too much and might want to make a thread of our own. Often times I’ll make new threads BECAUSE I realize I want to go off-topic.
@azulryu , I would even say that spin-offs within a thread should be moved to a new thread (even if the topic doesn’t already exist). However, as you said, everyone should do their best to make new threads when discussing a new topic.
The ideal situation would be keeping all content and never having to delete a post (unless for offensive language, scams, etc). I understand this may not be possible because @smpratte and the other mods can’t be expected to spend excessive time rearranging threads for everyone else’s convenience.
Thanks @djgigabyte. Happy birthday!
