Finally getting around to making my tcg collection post. I’ve always been a set collector. Started collecting again in the early 2010’s when I decided to pick up a legendary treasures pack from target.
Every binder in this picture is of a complete set. I don’t care for reverse holos so these aren’t “master” sets. The handful of binders that I circled are my work in progress sets. Realized I didn’t post my 151 binder in here. FireRed LeafGreen and HG base are complete.
I will use this post to take detailed photos of my cards for other to enjoy.
Base, Jungle, Fossil, Team Rocket Post 10
Gym Heroes, Gym Challenge, Neo Revelation Post 11
That is a ton of completed sets! Hats off to you for what looks like almost every English set completed. Are there any you haven’t yet started on (but that you intend to in the future)?
I never saw 1st edition for sale in my small town so unlimited is what I am nostalgic for. When I started collecting again i decided to stick with unlimited at the time. 1st edition wasnt affordable for my budget at the time and I figured i could collect more sets for less money in the long run. I have a complete Japanese Leaders Stadium because it was super cheap a decade ago and I love the gym series. I need to make a binder of the Challenge from the Darkness set as well.
Base set wasn’t my first set in the series growing up. Those stories will be for the Jungle. I will never forget when I opened my first Charizard. We didn’t have a ton of money as a kid so booster packs were few and far between. I remember coming home from school and my mom surprised me and my brother with a pack of base set. I was absolutely floored when I saw the Charizard! My brothers pack had Blastoise which made me a bit jealous i remember. Times were tough but i always cherished that card.
I never acquired Alakazam when I was a kid so this card always has a mystique to it. Charmander was my starter so that card will always hold many memories.
Jungle was the first set I ever bought. I remember my brother and I walking to the local baseball card shop to buy our first packs. We bought a pack each and he pulled a holo Flareon while I pulled the holo Snorlax. A few weeks later he didn’t care much for his cards so I made a deal to do his weekend chores for his cards.
Jungle holds a ton of memories and is what got me into the cards. Snorlax will always be my favorite card from the set. This is easily followed by the gorgeous Cubone
Fossil was the first expansion I experienced in the hobby. By the time this set came out I had amassed a collection. At least I thought so since I was a kid. Any extra money I earned was instantly spent on fossil booster packs. I was a Jurassic Park kid so seeing prehistoric Pokemon was wild to me.
Dragonite and Aerodactyl were my favorites. Ditto was a pain for me to add to the collection from what I remember. Was right up there with the allusive Alakazam from base.
My love for the gym series probably spawned from Team Rocket. The thought that these were evil Pokemon was awesome. Also pulling the first secret rare was a crazy experience.
This set is full of gorgeous and unique art and I love going through this binder
Favorite cards: Dark Slowbro always catches my eye in this set. When people look through the binder they are always surprised to see the team rocket grunt in the background.
The Gym series has always been my favorite sets. I always loved seeing the different leaders on each card. When I started collecting these 2 sets were my main focus.
I remember seeing a Japanese Giovanni’s Nidoking as a kid. I think this was the first set card that I saw and instantly fell in love with that angry purple dinosaur. I always wanted the corrected Charizard and a few years back I snagged one and it sits proudly in its plastic prison for now.
Favorite cards from both sets goes to: Blaine’s Moltres and Rockets Snorlax (Gym Heroes)
Giovanni’s Nidoking and Rockets Zapdos are the stand out for Gym Challenge. I was happy to see the reprint of zapdos a few years back,
Neo Revelation wasnt a set I collected as a kid so a lot of these cards were very new to me when I started this binder. The 3 holo dogs really stand out for me though. I feel like it really portrays these majestic beasts well.
Favorite Cards: Shining Gyarados really stands out and brings me back to finding it in my copy of Silver.
