Interested in how this goes

Is it better to crack them then just sending them in as a crossover?
I think a lot of people worry that sending in the slab might influence the grade the card receives whereas sending it in raw would be a clean slate with nothing to affect the perception of the card. Especially if your hope is to get back a higher grade from the crossover. There is no real evidence of this, but I think its logical conjecture that sending something prelabeled might be perceived differently than a card with no such label.
Oh okay, thank you. Guess my fear would rather be when trying to crack it, accidentally damaging the card in some way. Risk reward system I guess ![]()
There’s nothing to really say until the results are in but I just want you to know I am following this eagerly and with great interest.
omg I never expected to find another dude from Gijón here
gluck on the grades! cant wait to see the results ![]()
Lol that really was unexpected yeah hahahaha

So after a long time finally have the results. They shipped them lsat week and havent received them yet, havent posted before as I was really disappointed with a few cards and have just arrived from vacations.
PSA RE-SUBMISSIONS
Didnt go as planned, hitmonchan and crobat went down by 1 and ho-oh remained the same.
Hitmonchan reviously was PSA 8
Crobat was previously PSA 7
Ho-Oh Was previously PSA 6
Graad
Pretty accurate, same rating and -1. Happy with the celebi and a bit dissapointed with the Lugia, I think the 7 was fair but 6 is ok I guess.
Celebi was previously Graad6.5
Lugia was previously Graad 7
Universal grading
Seems correct, 7 stayed as 7
PCA
Accurate and strict as expected, PCA 7 became a PSA 8 pretty happy with this one
CGC
The most accurate as I was expecting, they all were 8.5 became 2 PSA 9 and 1 PSA 8
BGS
Biggest dissapointment and completely unexpected as I considered them a fair grading company, but wont look at them like this anymore. Nidoking came back as a PSA 8 which I can see reasonable( even thought begore the BGS 8.5 it was a PSA 9 but whatever an 8 seems correct) but when I saw blastoise got a PSA 5 I just couldnt believe it!! From a 8.5 to a 5, it really does not deserve that grade, I inspected the card very very carfeully and It really deserves an 8. Will send it again for grading but that one hitted really hard…
European Grading
As I said before, trash grading company that overgrades their cards. Bought this one as looking at the card seemed solid, but looks like it wasnt. Not a surprise here
Previously an EG 8.5
Non graded cards:
So here my grading eye kind of messed on the charizard but got a solid 9 on the Kabutops. Charizard I really thought it deserved a 7 maybe a lucky 8, will definetly send it again for a review. Kabutops I was expecting a solid 8 and I am really happy with the result!!
Zard front and back, really a 7 could have been too much?
SO… Happy with the results but really disappointed and ruined by the blastoise, looking at the scans there seems to be a line on the holo that now i notice I really think it wasnt there before (by the pictures I had before submitting didnt see it and dont recall seeing it) Maybe they misshandled it resulting in this?
You think the zard has a chance to review as a 7?
Is that a crease on the bottom center of the back of blastoise?
Surface stuff can be tough to find and unfortunately PSA grades those defects generally the hardest in my experience. A lot of PSA 5s, and 6s I’ve seen would easily be a BGS or CGC 7-8+.
The review option seems to be hit or miss. Some people get cards bumped up, others don’t. It seems like cracking and re-submitting is your best option if you’re not totally satisfied with the grade, and you want the least ‘biased’ re-grade option.
For me personally, anything less than a 9 usually gets cracked out for my binders. Either way, it looks like you had an interesting experiment given you had so many different slabs/companies, so it’s nice to see your results/experience with this.
Regardless of the results, I really appreciate you uploading this! Helpful for the rest of us.
If this is a 6, the Charizard I have and i expected to be a 6-7 will probably came back as a 2-3 at best

For the rest of the cards, nice experiment. European Grading is absolute trash and the only reason it still popular in Spain is due to being the only Grading Company here and the marketing they got from a certain people that hyped the hobby the last two years. That Machamp it’s better as a PSA6 for sure than a 8.5 EG (and now at least has some real value, as it’s autentifícated by a reputable grading company). Too bad to see Blastoise in a PSA5…
Im wondering, do you collect modern as well or just vintage?
The -1 on the PSA grades is a slap in the face, especially when you thought it could go up 1
Thanks for sharing the results! This is all super helpful for anyone here looking to cross-grade!
With regards to BGS, they tend to be more lenient with their grades under a 9 and only extremely harsh with their perfect grades. Even the BGS 9 slabs I used to have felt questionable to me, as extremely off-centered borders or iffy corners would receive a 9 or even 9.5 score.
Related but there’s someone in one of the Facebook Pokemon groups I’m a part of that crossed over a PSA 5 Pop Series 5 Gold Star Umbreon into a…BGS 9. He keeps trying to sell it for $10K CAD but nobody wants to touch that card with a ten-foot pole knowing its prior history. ![]()
Really nice seeing everything. Cgc was most interesting for me because that and psa is what i go for so pleased to see they are pretty much the same. Would love another experiment say 20 cgc cards crossover to psa would be a bit more telling if one has an edge. I know ideally more the better… Nice thread. ![]()
Yes… I see lots of people on wallapop saying “EG is way more extract than PSA” and I just can’t even bother trying to explain lol
I collect vintage cards mostly, all WOTC era and I’m recently starting to get some EX era cards, I don’t feel attracted by the modern arts artwork…
This is the most “modern” card I have
