Hi everyone, this is my first post here so please let me know if I’m doing this incorrectly, but since I’m getting started collecting I’m curious if people do creative or interesting things with their bulk other than selling/donating them. I really want to avoid waste as much as possible as I get into collecting. Appreciate any insight or advice.
Make decks with them
Find artists you like and collect their cards. If you think about it about, it is pretty bizarre/sad that 90% of the work they make is considered worthless outside the game, so give them the support they deserve and appreciate their work.
Fire starters
Build a tent
Use them as painting canvases and make altered art cards! Start with extending the background outside of the card frame and work up to adding new Pokemon or giving a costume to the one named on the card.
Cut them up and make a collage of some sort. PokeMonty on IG does collages out of energy cards, I’m sure you could do something similar with card arts.
I know you said you don’t want to sell/donate but those are definitely the most common (and best imo) options, especially if you have a large volume. Card stores buy for 1-3 cents a piece for C/UC, and more for RH/Rare/Holo. I flipped a ton of my bulk during Celebrations opening week to buy a few hundred bucks worth of product.
Donating is probably the best feel good way to get rid of bulk. Find a local library and ask if they want to do a Pokemon TCG program, they’d probably love hundreds or thousands of cards to let kids make decks with or just sift through. Find neighborhood kids who want to play and give them a quick starter set.
I opened a bunch of Japanese packs recently, so have a lot of bulk. I’m planning on putting together some binder sets, which will be extremely inexpensive. With everything left over, I’ll just throw a few cards into someone’s order if they buy something (always try and make it interesting, so a couple of cards with nice artwork/not just energies and trainers).
I use Energy cards as bookmarks here and there
when i have free time i like sorting bulk into little sets to add whenever i sell an item. they could be sports teams or pokemon types, whichever best matches the order. none of it is really worth anything, and no one has complained about receiving them so far. if it’s more expensive bulk like topps chrome or topps sapphire, then i would just usually sell it in an ebay lot.
He has some amazing work!
I like this guy’s too
This is my favorite style of bulk art though:
These are all really amazing suggestions and have given me a ton of ideas so far, especially setting up something at our local library or doing a collage of some sort. Sincerely appreciate everyone’s responses.
looks like you got some solid answers! Welcome to the forum @radialcove, glad to have you! ![]()
I personally save my bulk to gift to kids. Some of my relatives have small children (<5yo), and they love getting a box of thousands of cards every now and again. Helps me save money around the holidays too!
I personally haven’t gotten around to this yet but I thought it would be cool to create some other card game decks like Go Fish, or matching, or UNO (if you don’t mind writing on them).
You could also create multiple decks around region, themes, or types.
I print proxies and paste on the bulk cards to play other TCGs like MTG, YGO, and FAB.
I just add a card to orders that I send out as a thank you.
How do the proxies look and feel?
It’s just paper pasted on bulk cards. Not for those who are very particular.
