Covid-19/Corona Virus Megathread (Info/Discussion)

Yeah its much better now! Not trying to downplay the worry, but I think it helps reduce it a bit as some state are massive, and the virus is concentrated in condensed areas.

Agreed. More data + more accurate data is always better. If you’re interested, this video from 10 days ago talks about the data collection efforts that JHU is doing for the dashboard. At that time it was already getting 1.2 billion requests per day.

I’d like to add that here in my city (Chicago) supplies are plentiful. Targets and Walmart’s just restocked on supplies including toilet paper but are limited to one(27 pack) a person which is fine with me. Traffic has also decreased drastically which is also amazing. I still wish school was open and I could work though since I really enjoy going to work. My job does have paid leave, sick and vacation time they allowed me to use if I’d like.

On the bright side my place hasn’t been this clean in a while. I have time to fix some nick nacks here and there that I’ve put off for a while. Nothing like cracking open a beer in the garage and working on the project car. Aside from sanitizing the house and giving my car the deserved TLC it deserves I’ve also enjoyed recharging my batteries next to my wife.

I’m sorry if I sound ignorant but It seems like this was all an attempt at population control. Whether it was by human or by nature I don’t know, but Earth was suffering and I believe this was more of a good thing instead of a bad thing. I’m sorry for anyone who lost a loved one. Don’t forget to keep cool guys after all in this world it is survival of the fittest.

Here are some shots I took of my car after I rust proof’d the vulnerable areas:

Anyone who wants to know the latest from the UK there’s an update by the PM at 20:30 GMT. Wonder if we’ll have confirmation of a lock down.

@missingno,

Are you using fluid film on your car? Or what product are you using?

British prime minister just announced a national Lockdown

It’s paint, I hit the most rusted areas with a steel wire wheel then prime it and paint it.

I swear that there are people participating in this thread that are DESPERATE to show us all they lack basic reading comprehension.

This thread is NOT for:
Shitting on China
Debating animal welfare ethics
Posting anecdotes about food markets and food preparation techniques

If someone posts something inflammatory or off topic then ignore it/report it, don’t respond to it and make things worse.

This topic is meant for discussing things RELEVANT to the ongoing global pandemic, the virus itself, and how it is effecting you/your city/your state/your country/your family and friends. Nothing else.
If it’s really difficult for any of you to participate in this thread without veering into off topic or non relevant posts than please stop posting in this thread.

So how is this affecting everyones buying habits on here? I am buying the same amount of cards I usually do for the most part. Not asking about what you guys think the market will look like, more of if these times have scared you away from purchasing cards

The AUD has dropped so I’m not buying anything internationally unless it’s a very unique item. That leaves me to buy from the small Australian market which doesn’t have much to offer…

@acebren, strangely I’m finding heaps of stuff from AU on FB groups but yeah no way I’m paying current conversions for USD

Covid-19 literally came from China because of poor food preparation/animal ethics. If you’ve ever been to a wet market then you would know how relevant these so called off topic remarks are to the topic. I spent time in a wet market in the Philippines (1998). It’s truly a breeding ground for pandemics and epidemics. I get that we need to be sensitive to “China”, but I’m done with pussyfooting around this. The wet markets need to be permanently banned across the world. Not shiting on the Chinese, but I will shit on wet markets.

Where the virus originated is not relevant to this topic(at this time), it is not relevant to how the virus is now spreading and it is not relevant to what is being done now to contain, mitigate, and safeguard people from getting the virus.

It is not about being ‘sensitive to China’ or anything like that. I actually 100% agree with you on how bad wet markets are, but it is not relevant to this thread. If you are ‘done with pussyfooting around’ about this then go somewhere else and discuss it.

This board has a general no politics rules that stops people from having politically based discussions because people have proven time and time again that they cannot discuss most political topics in a civilized manner. The morals and ethics behind wet markets, and animal cruelty is a political subject.

Please remember that this is a Pokemon collectors board and that this thread already is bending the rules we have in place, but because of how serious and global the issue is it is necessary to have a general topic for it.

Also please know I am not mad at you or trying to shut you up because of my own personal opinions. We are just trying to keep this thread as smooth and information based as possible and it’s proving to be a bit of a chore. So if we see something come up that we think will potentially derail the thread or cause fighting then we are going to remove it.

NZ is now going into a four week full lockdown. thankfully there is a ubi in place to help anyone in need to pay rent and live. hopefully this measure will nip it in the butt here. stay safe out there!

Restaurants/Cafes had to shut down their dine in areas yesterday at midday here in Western Australia. There is a cafe near my work that does the best Eggs Benedict I have had and I go there for lunch every now and then while at work. Went there to get a takeout coffee at about 12:30 and they were packing up. Asked the owner how things were going and he almost burst into tears.

Well, state of MA finally start their shutdown, but still have to go to work.

As Asian American, I still fear for myself because I’m still closing alone every night/midnight.

I have to watch my back every minute while walking home since I don’t want to experience being mugged again.

WTH? Well that’s super bad. Sorry, especially at this time, you have to stress over all that:(

Ohio shut down all non-essential businesses last night at midnight. I haven’t seen very many places that are actually closing their doors though, besides maybe retail clothing stores. The governor’s order seems to be pretty lenient so that most places are “essential” and stay open.

Where I work has pretty much everyone high risk staying home and day shift working half of their normal hours with full pay but no over time. Luckily for me my position is unaffected and its business as usual, for now. One person in a different department tested positive but was wise enough to self quarantine and get tested before returning to work after a European vacation. Dodged a bullet there, but we’ll see for how long.
