Covid-19/Corona Virus Megathread (Info/Discussion)

Yean airlines can make billions and billions for a decade plus of bull market but we have to bail them out after a month of hardship…and yet no bailout for little guy lol what a joke. Oh and I guess spending a trillion on military every year is ok too

Australian here. I’ve gone to supermarket every couple days for the last week. A week ago it was a giggle that the toliet paper was out of stock. Today it has actually got to the point that staples like canned foods and drinks shelves are either very low or empty. This is going to be a interesting few months

Who is the little guy you are referring to?

Also which airline has been making “billions” of actual profit? American Airlines, one of the largest airlines, has an annual operating cost of 11.1 Billion. Their total Revenue was 11.9 Billion. That isn’t even 1B before any other expenses. The industry is inherently not profitable unless you can scale. Even then it’s still low margin. 1B would literally pay for one month of American Airlines operations…

In short, you can’t be a “little guy” in the airline industry. The largest companies who provide a necessary service are struggling to survive this drought, that is why they are seeking assistance.

@jcincy101,
What Scott said plus, who are the airlines? They are us. All the little people invested in them, and/or need them to complete our tasks, The bail out is for all us little guys. But even so, I’ll go back to what I said before, 80 TRILLION is a lot more than billions anyway.

Australia has free public health care and gaurenteed sick days. So far not bankrupt.

Iran Warns Virus Could Kill ‘Millions’ in Islamic Republic

Honestly it baffles me how any intelligent person can say “Free public health care”. NOTHINGS FREE. Besides your regular taxes (which are very high already) earn $37,000 and you’ll pay $3,500 plus over 30% more.
Now if you make 18k a year you “only” pay 20% plus your regular taxes, OBSCENE, Here in the states if you make 30k and have a kid you pay nothing and get a few thousand free.
Finally, you have only 25 million people. We have nearly that many Illegal aliens. Just one of our 50 states has double your population.

I believe the bottom line is who do you want managing your children’s life. You or your governments politicians. Take care of the roads, security, and the military. Leave the rest to us, the private sector.

I avoided looking at this thread like the plague until now.

I regret my decision.

PSA has suspended its services.

Let’s also try to tone down the discussion on taxes/healthcare/bailouts/the possibility of direct payments to Americans right here. This is getting too political and too unpleasant. Posting news is ok, commenting on the news is ok, but lets try not to get into arguments with our fellow collectors at this time. We all need to be in this together.

If one were to look up nonessential businesses card grading services would be the first example.

Now there’s great concern with Mexico. They are not only run by corrupt governments but have sadly horrible health care. It’s just starting there but it could be catastrophic for those poor people.

Just wanted to point out a small reminder.

PSA Shutting down operations till at least March 31st and probably much later. Do not ship subs to PSA at this time

good thing I just sent some cards to ludkins…

I guess its better than having cards at PSA though

The thing with stockpiling… first of all, everyone should already have at least two weeks of food in their house at any point - this just shows how few people actually do. Secondly, the only reason for our governments to decide that certain goods need to be rationed, for now, is if too many people panic buy. Sadly, panic buying and panic in general spread like a virus as well (“look at those empty shelves! Better stock up while I can!”). I think in some states, rationing will inevitably be a thing.

Just visited a local supermarket and they had armed guards protecting the toilet paper, and a literal 6 foot 9 hulk of a man looking after the self serve check outs, getting crazy out here lol
