Think you are wrong in this. I live in Denmark and have seen 4th print cards in many collections. My guess is that the UK 4th print was meant for EU countries.
All of the 1999 Base Set material I ever bought happened in Southern California from late 1999 to spring 2000.
I wound up pulling 390 4th printing cards from I think 26 boxes. None were holos. Curiously, 3 cards turned up frequently:
Pikachu – 59Vulpix – 51Double Colorless Energy – 38
Does anyone have a PSA 10 1999-2000 4th print charizard and blastoise for sale? I would also pay a decent finders fee for any leads that result in a successful deal.
Unsure, but a PSA 8 went for £847 on October 4th ~
Regarding Charmander:
In July, a Charmander PSA 10 went for $305, and yesterday a Charmander PSA 9 went for $295 - although the person has relisted it, the second highest offer was $290 ~
Very interesting topic, this same question occupied me yesterday. Seeing how the unlimited Charizard broke the 5K (this one still baffles me), and the Shadowless Charizard broke the 15k, the sensible answer might be… somewhere in the middle? haha.
Although probably closer to the 5k than to the 15k. Despite 4th print being rare, I personally feel it still doesn’t have the mass appeal/demand. I could be very wrong though, and the right buyer looking for the card at the right time might be willing to dish out a high amount. Nothing would surprise me anymore.
Interesting, what makes the Charizard and Nidoking rarer? I don’t know that much about 4th print, besides the fact that the Charizard is visually different, which is a detail I like a lot.
Personally, I think 4th print, and especially the Charizard, will prove itself in time.
Every single english “version” (i.e minor discrepancies) of 4/102 Charizard is going to demand some kind of premium going forward.
Out of all of the 1st ed ink versions, thick/thin/grey stamp versions, shadowless ink versions, unlimited ink versions and the 4th print version, 4th print is one of the more distinguishable versions, and the distinguishing factor is in (but not limited to) the holo itself.
I do think 4th print will remain a very niche item however, and that could stifle growth going forward. It’s market share is probably going to operate within the framework of wealthy Base or Charizard completionists.
I heard recently that someone offered 1k for a base 2000 mewtwo but not sure if the buyer really knew if it was the 2000 version or just the regular 1999 one. With the craze circling around base I think it just doesn’t matter as long as it’s a mewtwo
Hmm probably around 1k but there’s no holos even with the 1999-2000 date on the box there’s no guarantee that the holos are the same so who knows if this was the real deal.
