They made situations for Cosmo Zapdos, and Cosmo Machamp, and no rarity symbols on Japanese Base, as well as identifying Japanese Theme Decks missing rarity symbols.
Naturally they should add 1999-2000 Fossil too (though Cosmo Zapdos is the only 1999-2000 holo), but the rest of the holos have cosmo pattern with 1999 dates. So there’s actually four Fossil Zapdos variants (1st ed, unlimited, cosmo 1999, cosmo 1999-2000).
IMHO it’s very niche but for me, the rarity is what makes me appreciate them more at the end of the day. Their colors may have subtle differences but at least for me personally there not the reg unlimited. Charizard being the most noticeable and it looks more unique. Not sure if they will ever reach the prices of shadowless definitely not 1st ed base, but more folks are recognizing it and loving the rarity of it more. I hope PSA will eventually recognize it, but I ain’t holding my breath especially since based on previous talks on here it’s been a long while. I know someone bought a UK booster box in the past month for almost 12k from eBay.
But isn’t it intriguing that the person you know who bought that 1999-2000 UK box isn’t guaranteed in getting exclusively only 1999-2000 holos? That’s but one reason I could see these being worth more than Shadowless ~
Also, opening the 1999-2000 Sealed Starter Boxes doesn’t too guaranteed one to get the 1999-2000 adjusted copyright on the holos.
Completely agree!
When PSA finally start labelling Base 2000 properly i expect them to increase in value substantially, They are already pretty hard to come across especially in good condition.
I was lucky enough to obtain a heavy Base 2000 booster from Poland but i don’t have the PokéBalls to open the pack to see whats inside just yet😛
Thought id share my 1999-2000 Machamp, didnt realise till a year after I submitted it that it was 4th print. Its probably my most pristine 10, there is not a single mark on it anywhere that I can see
At least they called it Base 2000 lol ~ I’ve asked them what was their precise rationale in rejecting it and what they define as “details and information” ~ I think quite a few people need to message them: to make the message all the more indelible.
Yes there are differences but at the current time the community at large considers the differences as variants not significant enough to qualify as something to be collected. Maybe one day the community will value these variants differently, and until that day comes some variants will be undervalued.
You sure about that? If I’m not mistaken that is a 2x cert number. Experts on Instagram and Facebook have made it quite clear that those certs are weaker.
What do you mean by community? What qualifies as something to be collected is entirely subjective as seen by the diversity in collecting goals on these forums. I think the problem is that most casual collectors in the “community” are unaware of the 1999-2000 run, and perhaps more importantly, many of the people that are aware still do not fully appreciate the differences from regular unlimited, likely because they have not physically examined the cards themselves. Also, lets not forget that the non-theme deck holos marked 1999-2000 most likely are the rarest variant of the English base set regardless of market value. That alone is a pretty good selling point for collectibility.
