Its nice when you have offers from active accounts with feedbacks and such relating to other pokemon or collecting based interests. Ive got an open offer at the moment for a £1000 fairly niche card, from an account with 123 feedback, but only 1 feedback in the past 6months and zero to do with pokemon or anything close. Ive had this before and just gone with it without issue providing there is nothing screaming out to worry about, do any of you turn down in this situation with thoughts of maybe a stolen account?
I think maybe they have used a second account or private account with an open offer like 5% off or something that they wanted to use.
Someone stole an account with 123 feedback so they could pretend to be a reputable buyer but it’s really a devious plan to scam you out of your £1000 item? This feels like it’s based more on paranoia than reality
This isnt me being paranoid as such, ive accepted many 1-3k sales in this situation as there is nothing negative but I do always think the same and makes a lot more sense when a buyers ebay relates to the hobby.
In this case its the no feedback/purchases in 12months other than one 6 months ago. Its a weird time to jump in an buy a niche card, It could be many things like their first pokemon purchase, an alternative account they use, an offer to be used up. Using offers is always a good way to be able to choose your buyers, just was interested at what makes others decide to not go with a buyer
With that many transactions I wouldn’t worry much.
You can always run a background check right after they purchase and you can see their info. I usually only do that if I get a weird vibe or they really just don’t have much history on eBay.
Insurance yes thats a given for getting the courier to have your item delivered but has zero effect for items not as described, switcheroos, you sent me an incorrect item. Basically abuse of the returns system. Was interested to see if others have had say a buyer account that has been innactive for 1-2 years and then bought a 1k card, a 5k card, a 10k card or whatever, what parameters people set for veting a buyer?
Have you emailed the buyer to inquire? Doesn’t guarantee anything but probably doesn’t hurt, either. I usually say something like I’d like to double check the mailing address since there’s been some time between purchases, just to open up some dialogue. Makes me feel better anyway when they reply. I’ve had some pretty good exchanges and even sold more items to the buyer I didn’t have listed. Once I could not get any reply at all, so I ended up cancelling the transaction. Then the account ended up being closed within a few days and I was glad I followed up on my paranoia.
I have had the occasional weird feeling about buyers, what i do is i search their facebook and IG if possible, to look at the content. If i cant find their facebook/instagram i usually lose interest and end up shipping. I never let it bother me. 98-99% of buyers are solid, and if you do your part the stuff that can go wrong is very limited
