Chinese Pokemon Cards

Thank you

This might happen if the card was reprinted in a non-set product (such as gift boxes) or into a promo card, but I suppose you’re asking for this particular situation - the same card has a pair of holo and non-holo in the regular set and a non-holo copy in the deck.

Details:

In Both Traditional and Simplified Chinese (along with Thai and Indonesia) releases, sets exclusive to these regions were often released with structured starter decks accompanied with them. Cards included in these decks (excluding the bonus pack) are always non-holo regardless of card type (even cards usually printed in holo are printed without holo in this deck).

For example, the latest set announced in China - the CS5a and CS5b

Also has a deck CS5D

According to the card lists revealed just recently, both the set and deck will have Magnemites, which means CS5 will have at least 3 Magnemites - one non-holo in the CS5b set (as it’s Metal-typed), one reverse holo in the same set, and one non-holo in the CS5D deck.

How is the bonus pack structured? Do you mean every deck you purchase you get the whole set of cards and then a bonus pack with 1 secret card?

Or are there many decks and it’s a random deck and a random secret card or even no secret cards?

The bonus pack is a feature exclusive to Simplified Chinese starter deck products. (Traditional Chinese starter decks share the same format as Thai and Indonesia and thus don’t have bonus packs.)

It’s a sealed pack inserted into the same package as the deck, with one pack per deck/product and one random card in each pack. In the following product image, the pack can be seen stacked under the Raichu GX card at the bottom left.

Simplified Chinese starter deck products is similar to other Asian-exclusive starter decks, with each expansion having a card list of 100 to 300 cards for the decks and 16 to 18 recipes made from the card list, and each deck product includes 2 random recipes plus some random Trainer cards from the card list.

However, Simplified Chinese card lists for starter decks do have secret cards (while other Asian languages don’t), just like their booster pack counterparts. The secret cards are Full Art cards not included in the booster packs but printed in the same holo and texture as other FA crds. Some examples include Vileplume GX (from Japanese set Dream League), Hoopa V SAR and Leafeon VSTAR SAR.

The secret cards can only be pulled from the bonus pack with a small pull rate (other cards in the bonus pack are just regular Trainer cards from the deck’s regular card list).

Hello, as they contain new art-cards, I am considering purchasing some of Cs5aC and cs5bC… can anyone recommend a seller/proxy/source from which to pre-order Chinese boxes (ideally someone you have purchased from before)?

Thank you in advance!

If you’re still wondering about the differences in the Simplified Chinese PokĆ©mon cards from the Slim vs Jumbo booster packs, be sure to check out my comparison video where I provide a bunch of examples of the slim vs. jumbo holofoil / texture side-by-side. I hope this helps anyone who is still confused about the differences!

Do you know if the gold snorlax was apart of this ? Based on your video I’m guess yes the gold cards have the same situation. And can you confirm when jumbo and slim packs started.

Yes, gold cards should follow the same trend. I pulled a Mysterious Food Tin UR in S-Chinese (which has slim pack quality) and it has a different color shade to the Mysterious Food Tin UR I also happen to have in T-Chinese (which will have the same holofoil as jumbo pack cards).

As for your second question, my assumption is that this started since Storming Emergence since I noticed that the Shiny Rayquaza GX that I have in S-Chinese looks a bit different from the one I have in T-Chinese (as if it’s from a slim pack due to the brighter appearance /slight difference in color). Also jumbo & slim packs began as soon as Simplified Chinese sets were created in 2022.

If you want to see more for reference, I did open a box of Storming Emergence (Set B) / S-Chinese Base Set (slim pack box - 2022) on my YouTube Channel.

Anyone is welcome to chime in their findings too btw!

Also wanted to share a fun fact about this Rayquaza special art since it relates to mainland China:

The VMAX special art background looks very similar to the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. I’m not sure if this is the inspiration for Anesaki Dynamic, but I find it very fitting since Rayquaza always reminded me of the Chinese / Eastern dragon.

Seeing this similarity made me appreciate this card more and I’m wondering if you see the resemblance too! Had to present the simplified Chinese (slim pack) version too hehe.

I can’t actually find the set/deck these are from just that it’s cs4.1c and they were included as freebies in an order of mine. I’m such a sucker for the rainbow glitter holo so will try and sort out where these are from and binder collect the set.

If you’re only going for the glitters, the last card you need to complete this is Player’s Ceremony:

And I suppose you’re not stopping here if you know there’s a Vol. 2 (CS5.1) with 4 more to collect:

Based on current releases, we’re speculating there might even be a Vol. 3, but we’ll have to wait for a formal announcement. For now you should just focus on the first two sets.

Thanks a lot for the info! Really appreciate it. I’m guessing the players ceremony card isn’t cheap but I’m also sure it’s a gorgeous card to hold.
