Cgc pristine 10 shadowless charizard pop 1 up for auction on pwcc

I had no intention of grading with cgc. My original options were psa or bgs. Psa was my choice for the simple fact they were the big one nothing more nothing less. After patiently waiting forever with no end in sight of normal psa service I thought I’d try cgc just a bit til psa was back up and fully normal again. Its not a crazy thing to not use a company in a mess. Yes they had started again but prices and times weren’t normal and mess was still there. I was simply impressed with cgc they did a good job. I actually watched these in the early days when slabs started appearing along with other companies and got a good sense of what seemed ok and what didn’t. All those silly companies that set up just by looking at the quality of cards vs the grades was easy to see nonsense. Cgc seemed ok back then but I wasn’t going to use them. My main concern was consistency of grading and always will be. The psa mess times what came back during that time is the absolute worst consistency I’ve ever seen. What exactly went on we will never know but definitely not a clean sort out that’s for sure. I’ll now mix my grading between cgc and psa. I’m hoping for more consistency now they aren’t in a mess so am grading with them. If there is only one business that has a monopoly bad stuff happens. There has to be competition. I’m not a die hard fan for anyone if they do bad I’ll say and if they do good I’ll say.

Sorry for the tangent, but I’ve never understood “consumer warriors” who fight endlessly for companies. I see this regularly when I trade in person and some die-hard BGS/CGC fan won’t stop talking to me about how BGS/CGC trumps my PSA cards.

It’s possible to enthusiastically support a company AND acknowledge their shortcomings. Maybe it’s the culture we live in right now, but blind loyalty is not needed in Pokemon grading.

Just pick the company that fits the goal that you have. You want to sell with the greatest margin? Grade with PSA. You want to have errors acknowledged on a label? Grade with CGC. You want to chase a Black Label? Grade with BGS.

It’s OK to have different companies serve different purposes in your collection.

we dont have too many of those people here on e4, but the ones we do have sure seem to be outspoken. I think it will pass with time

Honestly, I haven’t seen too many CGC/BGS people on here like that. I’ve seen a lot more irrational hatred toward CGC than anything else.

Granted, there are legitimate reasons to be annoyed by CGC (and I and others have not been afraid to highlight those shortcomings). But a lot of the dislike for CGC seems to be visceral and inconcrete. Whereas I’ve seen plenty of criticism of PSA, but the criticism generally seems to be more measured and reasonable.

And then BGS is sort of just an afterthought because of how low their market share is (even compared to CGC). I haven’t see too many BGS detractors or supporters on this forum.

On Reddit/FB, pretty much everyone (regardless of which company they prefer) falls into the first bucket, though.

Cool vid from @TCAGaming.

For sure. I’m really happy with any old label 9.5s I’ve had my hands on as well. Honestly I haven’t really taken a time to compare my old 9.5s with the new 9.5s (or new 10s) of the same card to see if there’s any real discernible differences. I definitely get what you’re saying with the 9.5 vs 10 psychology, I’ve also been tempted to crack my old label 9.5s to try PSA 10 or possibly even CGC 10 re-grade given the possibility.

I’m pretty surprised by the CGC 10 Charizard sale as well. I guess it goes to show with certain cards like Charizard, there’s some big enough collectors who still value seeing the “Pristine” label and pay a premium. It seems though Pristine Shadowless Charizards were super rare with BGS for example, like only 3 of them ever? I haven’t checked the pops on CGC for a while to compare if the numbers have grown much in comparison to BGS.

PSA 2 → CGC 8.5

Wow. So PSA 9 = CGC 15.5 confirmed?!?!?

In all seriousness, the 10 Magmar from that video just arrived in my vault a few days ago. I’m curious to take a look at it in person at some point and see how deserving it is. I have 3x CGC 9.5 Magmars, two of which are incredibly strong (1 of which I pulled myself, and 1 of which I got from rainbowgym). If this 10 is better than either of my stronger 9.5s, I’ll be pretty impressed!

I unfortunately didn’t win the Sceptile. If I did, I would’ve been extremely curious to compare it my old cert 9.5 Sceptile, which is the strongest condition Sceptile I’ve ever seen out of the countless copies I’ve purchased. Seeing that video is kinda making me want to regrade it now lol.

Yeah definitely report back if you get a chance to view it in person. I do wonder how many really wrong grades are out there. Ranges of 6 to 9 or 7 to 10 is bad enough. 2 to 8.5 really just shouldn’t happen but psa did release countless ‘did they even grade it cards’ so expect to see more of this.

I ride and die with KFC and anyone who says the 11 herbs and spices do not taste nice are just plain wrong.

thanks for sharing. I’m thinking. this video a typical example of using hand-picked example and exaggerate it.

If it is not worth the regrade, why regrade it? so the sample he picked already had very questionable grades.

If he resubmits to PSA, they also might get a grade upgrade.

If he is using random picked graded cards, at a large scale, then I’m convinced.

Rusty did mention in the video that he thought the PSA 2 was just a labeling mistake and not questionable grading.

@TCGFish and @codytcas everything’s explained in the vid. Take it all for what it is. Im very good at seeing patterns. I’d really love if these companies could be held accountable like having a small written report being available to see as it is already made for their purposes happy to pay for that service but it should be mandatory not an extra so it’s built into the cost of all cards. Why is it a psa 7? Why is that same card a cgc perfect 10?

Humans are really good at searching for, interpreting, or favoring information that aligns with their preconceived beliefs (confirmation bias).

As others have said, when we pick and choose examples that reinforce our own belief systems, we are no longer objectively answering questions. This confirmation bias skews our reality toward what we believe rather than what is.

See this is where you choose to believe I have a bias for a company lol. I find patterns in data I leave my personal beliefs out. I favour none over none. You are absolutely right people do and being aware how that interrupts with showing what’s actually the case I know how not to allow it to influence me in any way.
