How to value a CGC perfect 10

a PSA 10 for the same card is around $100 maybe a bit more

Need to post which card it is and the pop of it to get any useful information

my bad I contemplated it but it’s Sylveon gx 238 from ultra shiny gx, pop 3

The last CGC Perfect 10 sold for $324 in December 2022 and a PSA 10 was selling for roughly $200 then. Given that a PSA 10 is now worth between $100 and $150, I can’t imagine that someone will pay more than $200 for a CGC Perfect 10 in 2024.

It’s an obsolete grade. It’s only as valuable as it’s ability to cross to a contemporary grade.

I did some data analyses and a lot of the CGC pristine 10’s for WOTC were going for 70-200% of what the PSA 10’s were going for. This was specific to the WOTC-era and primarily base/jungle/fossil.

Not enough data to project price ranges for perfect 10s.

they do really well on pwcc. there is a niche for them. If you have any to sell pwcc is pretty good

I would disagree for sure, I love the old CGC labels with sub grades and have no desire to cross mine to PSA or free CGC upgrades - even though im confident they would 10

To answer the OP, I would likely bid higher than PSA 10 for certain cards in an old CGC 10 label (not modern though for obvious reasons).

Something about it not being obtainable anymore does it for me.

I checked sold listings now, it looks like I do stand corrected.

The premium compared to the new gold Pristine 10 label is really variable. Sometimes it goes for the same price and sometimes it goes for like double.

That said, there used to be a REALLY high premium for the perfect 10s. Something like 6x or more than the PSA 1O price (but never quite as high as BL). I would make a confident prediction that the prices we see today are trending towards a lower equilibrium price. There are still many people who have been around long enough to see the label switch (it’s only been about 1 year). I would put money on it being the case that the further we are from the label switch date, the less people will understand or care for CGC Perfect 10.

That said, I do acknowledge my original statement was wrong (or perhaps premature). From really rough calculations the expected premium looks to be about 150% of a new gold 10. And also, I’m not making a claim about whether an individual should or should not buy these. If you like them then that’s all you need to know. I’m just stating the evidence as I see it.

CGC 10 is approx. a PSA 8,5

I’d argue a CGC perfect 10 has about a 70% chance to grade as a PSA 10. The problem is that CGC is the hype beast’s grading company. They got extremely lucky that they dove into the market right before the boom started and received the support from all of the new collectors. I firmly believe CGC did have a standard as a tough grader in the very very beginning; however, the unnatural growth resulted in them quickly losing that standard. If it has an old label, I’d say a perfect 10 is most likely a PSA 10, If it is a modern one, it has a 50/50 chance to grade as a 10.

They don’t have them anymore. A lot of people seem to have these strong opinions about cgc without knowing or using them

I graded with them a total of 2 times. Once in the very beginning grading a vintage to test them out, and the results came back meh, the second time they graded a clear PSA 7-8 as a 9.5 and 2 came back with the case broken or not sealed properly. It’s a churlish company that is poorly run IMO.

Why would you feel the need to comment on how CGC perfects perform or cross grade if you have graded 2x and are unaware that it’s a grade they no longer offer? All perfects are blue label it’s not the same as pristine. And it’s also no secret that they changed grading standards they announced that publicly

I’m just speaking on opinions and past experiences. No need to get frisky this early in the morning

You’re speaking with fairly irrelevant experience. And essentially no knowledge on what the op is asking. I see a lot of people with strong CGC opinions with this level of knowledge so I just wanted to know how badly CGC hurt you to feel the need to comment. If I didn’t comment the op may have taken your opinion into consideration when buying and selling. Not aware that you didn’t know what a CGC perfect was/is

A PSA 10 also has a 50/50 chance to regrade as a PSA 10.

Ironically a PSA 9 has a 70/30 change to upgrade itself magically…

Moral of the story is I believe regardless, a CGC shouldn’t carry a premium over any other grading company unless it comes to comic books. It’s an encapsulated card back by a grade that has little merit. You can get aggressive and believe what you want to believe about CGC, but the market knows best and there is a reason they got rid of the perfect 10 grade in the first place. Outside of the year 2020, a perfect 10 should be anywhere from even to 20% below a psa 10.
