CGC Confirms Recent "Disco Test Prints" Are Forgeries

I’ve been lurking waiting for an update. I’m a very casual collector so I like avoiding the drama. I’m just here for fun.

I can confirm I am @PokeflexOP. Lol jk. Why would you need a second account and what have I posted that would make people think I’m you? What purpose would that even serve?

I might not have made my stance completely clear here. Based on where I got my sheet of cards from and looking at them up close I was always pretty convinced they were fake. The experts here have only strengthened my suspicions. That said, I think these cards are super cool and it’s fun to compare with others. I’d love to find out where these cards actually came from, but I’m not convinced we’ll ever get a real answer. CGC mentioned that many vintage fakes had a similar disco Holo pattern but I can’t find any old images online of cards that look like these. I’m so curious how old these actually are.

The Not_an_expert user has pinged from vpn’s when visiting the site, so we can’t very anything on our end. I don’t care to witch hunt anyone. Cgc explained why these aren’t real.

I’m sorry if I was insinuating it should be a witch hunt, they really aren’t very important either way and they know they are doing it :joy:

A lot of people here have been around the block a lot longer than they realize, the fact that 25 was their age of maturity example is telling

I told you so, I tried warning people. The uncut wrapper sheets are also forgeries in my opinion. I am glad to see CGC put this out.

The disco cards had some very specific visually identifiable differences even without composition analysis.

For the cards:

  • incorrect disco dot shape
  • incorrect disco pattern
  • incorrect art frame

  • incorrect spelling “firest” on the bottom text

For the uncut sheets:

  • incorrect copyright date ( on Australia sheet )
  • incorrect energy symbols ( with potential matches found on Deviantart as free assets )
  • incorrect difficulty seal
  • incorrect fonts
  • incorrect WOTC seal
  • incorrect Nintendo seal
  • incorrect colors
  • and more

Dismissed. Debated. Dismissed again. The Disco Charizards Aren’t Returning—They had never begun in the first place.

This was never meant for the public.

It was meant for a scammer’s eye.

But now that it’s surfaced, it tells a story even clearer than its ink:

These aren’t errors.

They’re fakes.

That’s not a flaw—it’s the first spark of something ridiculously stupid that never got its chance.

It’s the Ghostbusters reboot of Pokémon cards—different, unnecessary, and just straight-up bad.

Until now.

Uncut. Shadowless layout. 1st Edition stamp.

Stage box errors.

Disco foil unlike any officially released pattern.

The closer you look, the blinder you have to be to call them real—

and the easier it becomes to believe you must be having a stroke.

I’ve donated full uncut sheets to museums that proceeded to throw them in the trash because they don’t accept unsolicited donations.

I’ve submitted cut versions for material testing at CGC who said they were all fake.

And I’m not here to convince anyone.

I’m just here to get the Zards flying.

While it is true that PSA had graded fake or altered cards before, they also have a system/financial guarantee for their graded cards, where they will pay out the purchase price/market value if something like that occurs.

Ironically, BGS is the only company to not offer a financial guarantee for counterfeit or altered cards.

A few months back, an uncut sheet surfaced.

I saw this scrolling across my feed, and the entire story sounded very sketchy, considering that I had seen an Etsy listing for the very same uncut sheet (now removed), as well as other 4 panel “uncut sheets” of the Disco print Zards. There was a spelling mistake in the flavor text, as well as other glaring mistakes, and the story didn’t add up.

About a month or so ago, I also got a DM from someone trying to argue that I was wrong, and that the Etsy listing was genuine, and that they were going to submit to major grading companies to “prove their authenticity”. Is this all connected? Who knows, I love a good rabbit hole mystery.

If you want to see PSA’s guarantee in action I’d suggest having a fun time in the rollercoaster of my past experience using it

Same sheet, seems the owner messaged many people who disputed its authenticity claiming that it would be proven authentic. All messages and links were scrubbed and the reddit account was deleted soon after.

That makes a lot of sense then, I figured it was coincidental that after I got tagged by you in that thread, they started to message me out of the blue when the issue had been dormant for months.

I wonder if OfficialPOak is tied to this eBay account in the thread, as that was who was originally selling these fake sheets.

I would also like to call out that the eBay store changed names, AT LEAST twice. I don’t know if people picked up on that.

“ce0143” was the first name I saw, then it changed to ”GraffitiPoPpp”, and now is “Rockets TCG Warehouse”.

I have a couple edgy takes on CGC posting this

  • This article is basically saying, the cards are different from legitimate disco holos and shadowless holos. I mean… yeah, I could tell that with my eyes.
  • By posting this, CGC makes it easier for counterfeiters to make more legitimate appearing cards. Unless CGC did not reveal all of their techniques for catching fakes.

Finally:

I, like everyone else here, believe these are fake. However the CGC article doesn’t make a strong argument for them being fake. They just make a strong argument for them not having the same qualities as other disco prints and production cards.

(Which, again, anyone with a brain can tell)

Besides the fact that they exhibit almost no correct traits to production WotC cards from the font, to the rosettes, to the borders, to the ink composition, to the layer separation, to the missing layers I guess you are right

Apologies if I brought you unwanted attention.

Nah it’s totally fine, Reddit is full of confidently incorrect people, and this situation was no different. I’d rather people avoid being scammed/scamming someone than not pass along the relevant info when I can help.

They don’t have this for autos and good luck getting a payout for altered PSA slabs
