CGC Changed Their Grading Scale & Label

Maybe the Oddish would be happier in a green binder. :green_heart: :potted_plant:

Things that are of interest at this point to me are the price diffs between psa 10 and cgc 10 gem mint and how psa will deal with crossing cgc 10 gem mint to a psa 10.

Psa can never make any changes to their label. They are boxed in

Sure they can, just look at how it worked out for- oh wait :joy:

I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole thing just goes full circle. All this speculation on the same card changing a number on the label is untested. I mentioned this in patreon; The biggest question is who is the target buyer? Everyone crawling over themselves to exchange 9.5s to 10s with the idea of easy money but who is the buyer if everyone is in on it? It feels like nfts.

The old PSA label and the new one may as well be blue and black like CGC to me. Wildly different and if they offered a 5$ reslab I bet tons of people would jump

The people who want a 10 in their collection but have no chance of buying a PSA 10. I would imagine.

That pretty much includes me. Though it’s more that I don’t believe the PSA 10 price is justified by the quality of card that you get so if I can get a 10 at a price that I’m ok with I’ll do it. I think CGC did add a good number of people who will hold and collect CGC now and not just flip. I certainly will collect CGC now

I personally think that 99.9% of people who bought a CGC 9.5 were trying to make a quick buck, not because they want a 10 in their collection.

That makes sense for certain cards. I just wouldn’t be surprised if there are a lot of people holding the bag with all this speculation.

The strat is to close the gap between cgc 10 gem and psa 10 price wise. As soon as they are close enough that people can’t make any more money out of the gap between by crossing the two prices will be gravitationally locked. It’s just like chess you need to think multiple moves ahead and make others think they are trapping you but in fact you are making them make the moves you want them to make. Cgc gem mint 10 will be a lil lower than psa 10 price wise and cgc pristine 10 will be a lil higher in time.

I’m talking about the people who will be buying the new 10s. Not the people who bought the 9.5s to flip.

Who gets the 1000th post honor?

Depends on when they bought. I would bet anything that CGC 10s will still go for more than 9.5s a month ago permanently going forward.

Maybe not a lot more, but probably enough to here these people aren’t taking huge losses.

So long as they were buying actually good cards and not modern alt 9.5s. And also provided they didn’t pay inflated prices

Sure but there are examples of their pristine/perfect 10s, which are supposed to be ā€œbetterā€ earning less than psa 10. I just don’t think magically changing the label/scale is going to cure the price gap. They are still fighting inertia and the junk slab volume.

Well duh lol especially the ultra modern buyers. For example the price of celebrations zard in 9.5 went from like $120 pre announcement to $180-190 now. There’s a very good chance that’s ALL bag holders once the dust settles.

However, I certainly don’t agree that people finding clean vintage 9.5s and buying them at a discount are looking for quick flips.

Yeah people forget that for cards that ā€œmatterā€ the 9.5 pop that we’re all so concerned about overflowing in the market was often like <20
