I wonder how hard CGC is going to get hit this month with relabels, and if it will be enough to dramatically affect return times…
I bet it’ll be a big slowdown percentage wise. Though early June they took a total of 4 hrs to do my standard order from received to shipped back so any slowdown is not gonna be too bad from an overall view
Yeah there is a lot of variables. Scott is probably thinking more in the vein of these Charizards that are going to be sold immediately after getting 10s. With cards like that he’s probably right.
I think a lot of the WOTC holos specifically will jump in value at a 10 and stay there. Obviously the higher the price like these charizards the more the price will drop before settling.
I think that’s the crux of why they made all of these changes; a lack of customers. I wonder if they will make more changes if they don’t fetch as many customers as they expect.
They said this is something that has been in the works for the past year because they wanted more synergy between their two card divisions. So I doubt they have some new customer goal immediately following it.
Oh absolutely, they were hurting. To be fair literally every company is hurting right now (at least in the usa)
But trying to be objective I think it’s all good changes and short term turbulence. I will say some disappointment and skepticism is also completely warranted.
Everyone did what they thought was best with what info they had at the time. We will see who was right. I won’t hide it if I lose big
It’s the direction of travel that’s important. It’ll take more than just this for sure but it’s staged like a rocket. More to come.
I already lost big with the amount of money I lost to subs, so now it’s just a question of whether or not I can trust them enough to send anything more to them
I’d be keeping specific subs as they are now limited editions.
Since I have them all on my wall the inconsistency could drive a man insane
This has been my question since Day 1 of the 9.5 buyouts. Most people buying up 9.5s are looking to flip them as 10s for profit.
The other issue that I have with the CGC 10 Gem Mint grade is that I would not consider them 10s. Many have imperfections that are far closer to a 9 than a 10, which is why they were graded CGC 9.5 to begin with.
I have a thread for all the bad 9.5s people find. Please feel free to add all these you’ve found.
I’m holding on to my 9.5s to someday capitalize on “rare classic blue CGC label retired grade
”
But fr I’m puzzled by everyone paying premiums for the 9.5s to relabel as 10s too. The speculation is insane. It’s not like the card is changing at all. I’m worried the 10 is just gonna carry around the “basically still a 9.5 with moved goalposts” image
How is that different from PSA?
If the goal is to get more like the industry leader that sounds like mission accomplished.
My thoughts as well. On one hand there are quite a few PSA 9s out there that have been cracked and resubmitted for 10s (and people dont seem to really care), but on the other hand, I’d bet there are way more CGC 9.5s that wouldn’t cross to PSA 10. Especially after their grading change over a year ago.
Tough pill to swallow but true: CGC 9.5 are harder to achieve than PSA 10
This is what’s wild to me. Their biggest competitor on the Pokémon side is PSA, and the new grading scale and elimination of sub grades just makes them look like PSA At Home imo, not their own thing. Why would I grade with them for anything but my errors when I can just grade with PSA? Especially since I’m more confident they won’t just change their grading scale and cheapen their gem mint standard. They should’ve done this from the get go instead of changing years down the line. It’s just so weird
Honestly, I would have preferred them to downgrade the 9.5s and merge the Pristine and Perfect 10s to have one “10” grade. That would have been in-line with the industry leader.
If you want to destroy your own company that’s a great move to make. @pfm said it all in his post above.
It would have pissed off a lot of people, but it also would have made CGC the “harshest” grader in the game again. I know that this isn’t what everyone wants, but it sure is what everyone needs.
