No harm done! I just didn’t want you to think I was gaslighting you.
Just FYI you have a few minutes to edit it before it shows up as an edit.
Yes, which I’ve already acknowledged:
According to the article, less than 5% of people were purchasing subs. Yes, that is because they increased the sub price to $15/card (a ridiculous decision, IMO – I totally agree with qwachansey on that). But it still just as well demonstrates that that was clearly not the reason why people were continuing to submit with them.
Basically, the reality still stands that the people continuing to submit to CGC weren’t submitting because they offered subgrades.
Man, 6 hrs & 240 comments. Kinda funny CGC hyped up such a divisive change as a positive “secret” for over a week. Really puts into perspective how out of touch they were with that.
Is it being received better off-site? We don’t really count for much here. (Edit: Or do we?)
CGC/grading drama >>>> waifu drama
That’s a fair point. But my point still stands that subgrades weren’t the reason behind most of the continued submissions to CGC.
They’re getting dragged on Instagram too, I’d say the hate is stronger there.
5% of volume. Most of the volume sellers are not using subgrades. The 5% could correspond to 50% or more of their customers
When i subbed, i exclusively used subgrades
Out of curiosity I searched “Pokémon CGC 10” on eBay and it took 17 results to see one with subgrades. I’m so surprised but obviously the stats check out here.
No, IG is definitely worse. Everyone is lying and saying they arent going to grade with cgc anymore cause they are big mad
yeah imo in a few months, this feeling will be long forgotten for most people
And yet if you search “CGC 9.5 Pokemon” on eBay sold there’s an insane amount of sales happening right now.
People’s jimmies can’t be that rustled.
People want 10s, and CGC knows that…I bought a 9.5 earlier as well too Got it at double the PSA 9 price but at 65% lower than the 10. Let’s see
Those are people trying to capitalize
I do like that the label is big enough to have a proper description of the card, which I think gives the label some dignity and class that the heavily abbreviated labels of PSA do not have.
I do think the elimination of subgrades to free up this real estate is worth it in theory.
Don’t blame ya. Grabbing a 10 for a 9.5 price is never a bad play if you want the card.
There’s just too many unknowns as to whether the new CGC 10 will command an equivalent 10 premium like PSA does, especially when many CGC 9.5s were already priced with PSA 9 & 10 values in mind.
Welp, my first and only CGC submission resulted in a bunch of 9.5s. So it’s cool that they are 10s now, I guess? I honestly don’t know what to make of this change lol
I think the reason for the 5% sub grades is the split between serious collectors (more on E4) vs casual collectors. Most cgc slabs are probably lower end going to casual collectors and not worth sub grades. It still feels like a bad move to completely remove them as an option. Especially because the casual group can be more fickle and chase the dollar cost. For example, if PSA decided to undercut everyone tomorrow, would the casual collector still pay more for cgc? Where I think the serious collector who values the sub grades and what made cgc different would.
