Alright, who’s pretty accurate with their pre-grade to actual grade ratio? Meaning, you’re consistent with estimating the grade you’ll get back from one of the three letter companies.
I’m looking to book an hour of time with someone to talk through what to look for and to practice pre-grading with me. Let me know if anyone is up for it or can recommend someone who might be. I think I’ve got a good eye, but I want to get into the details.
So far I’ve been pulling images off of eBay and using those as my guide.
Buy a few cheap PSA 8/9/10 and then inspect yourself in person. Nothing is going to compare to learning yourself first hand. Photos/videos don’t do justice no matter the quality.
@smpratte does have a 1 hour video call option on his $100 patreon level though and Ludkins offers a pre grade service where you can actually get the pregrades and then opt to not send on to PSA. I don’t know if they’d opt for explaining the pre grades or not, but given you are offering to pay for that service I’d imagine they could do a small report on each pre grade for a price.
gottaketchumall three solid ideas. Forgot about Scott’s offering. I sent off a bunch to PSA 3 months ago, but I don’t expect those back for a bit! I’ll look into making a few purchases to research.
I’d still pay to do a zoom with someone if that’s what it takes just so I can ask questions. Free is better, but obviously value everyone’s time.
garyis2000 couldn’t agree more! Some people are meh on getting paid for stuff like this and just want to do for fun so I’m covering all my bases.
As gottaketchumall mentioned, photos/videos often aren’t enough to accurately pre-grade a card. But I could answer questions, share examples I have and discuss what I look for and how etc. Plus I could still attempt to pre-grade and explain why I think the card deserves that grade as long as you understand the grade is based on the limited info I have and therefore could be completely inaccurate if there’s hidden damage to the card for example.
I don’t process thousands of cards every year like some people probably do here but from building up my own collection I think I’ve built up a pretty good idea of the standards expected from PSA 7-10 cards. So if you have quite a mixed condition of cards I’m probably not your man. Otherwise feel free to msg me
PSA always has surprises, so no one will be 100% accurate. But if you can think of some other solid questions, I would highly recommend @smpratte for the call. Worth every penny.
It’s pay to win now. If you have anything over $500 USD in value, go for the more expensive grading options and you’ll get higher grades. Anecdotal evidence from recent submitted cards by friends.
