Looking for advice- Grading apps

Hello all:

Looking for advice, I just got a recent grade report back from PSA and found I got 14 PSA 10 grades, on a 217 card order. Now, I would like to think as someone who has been grading since ~2009 I would know a little bit about card condition, but a ~6.5% return ratio of 10’s is more than a bit disheartening. So I think I need to step up my game here.

For context here I was grading bulk evolutions, a set notorious for not having great return rate of PSA 10’s. I didn’t expect a high return rate by any stretch, but was still amazed that my 4k grading investment likely won’t come close to completing a set I’ve been hard at work on for the past two years.

I think in the AI era it’s become more important than ever to have something that helps you along the way. My question is simple- what pre-grading apps are you guys using and more importantly are they working? Would love to hear what it is you all use as I clearly need help.

I dont use any app to grade cards and Ive only graded a few myself personally (likely less than 10), but if such an app does exist I would be skeptical rather than using tools like a loupe, and blacklight with your own eyes if you dont already.

All grading companies are going to be subjective, and even AI ones like TAG are going to be incorrect at times. What was the amount of 9’s looking like from your total sample of cards? Also whats your method when grading?

More than half of my submission came back as a PSA 9. 128 cards total.

Method for me is “cleanest” I know full well that some of the cards had different centering issues but submitted anyway knowing I would see some issues.

Don’t get me wrong, I was well aware I was not going to have a heavy amount of 10’s. That said I am of the personal opinion that PSA is likely using some kind of AI software for grading (they have just not made it public) I’m curious if anyone is having a good return rate with software that is out there now.
