I’ve slowly been adding three cards from an artist to a binder with a focus around affordability and quantities being plentiful. So cheap, ordinary/plain, cards.
What I’m avoiding: what’s already valuable, cards that typically climb higher in value over others (beit promos, holos, full arts, etc), and cards harder to find. There’s no guarantee certain cards won’t eventually shoot up in value but placing limitations allows for more involvement.
Featured so far:
Aya Kusube (Farfetch’d, Lanturn, Weavile)
Kagemaru Himeno (Cyndaquil, Quilava, Typhlosion… but these three feel like cheating)
kawayoo (Bronzor, Walrein, Crobat)
Yukiko Baba (Burmy, Misdreavus, Feebas)
Sumiyoshi Kizuki (Graveler, Misdreavus, Smeargle)
Having the exact same cards as others shouldn’t be as important. Changing your lineup as you converse with others shouldn’t be either!
Please don’t think you have to pick older cards, I just have more of them.
I think the latest illustration promos theyve given out within the past 5 years are perfect. Theres 3 of them, beautiful, and plentiful.
Edit: just noticed you want the same artists for all 3, my fault. Id have to sit down and look at all the artists myself. Maybe try serebii and filter by artist. I usually find a ton that way artist wise.
PS: I’ve been thinking about doing a similar collection a few times before, so I love the idea and hope to see many updates to this thread. But I honestly already have too many collection goals as is. And for my favorite illustrators, it’d be very hard to keep it at just three cards, instead of filling two 9-pocket pages, ngl.
hmmm this is a fun idea! But I think I might go a different path, and do mini themes for each row. Like a row for cute, a row for cool, a row for funny ones. etc. And just add more and more as I think up ideas!
Yeah, totally! The last three from Tanaka was leafy themed. I might actually try to return and find some artist themes along with choices made. But it might make it harder to maintain an affordability approach. I’ll do it where I can. The two Trapinch above (for Harada and Arita) have this crater-like theme surrounding the pocket monster. Wondering if I can find a third by another artist.
I wanted to include Yukihiro Tada as he would be my favorite modern artist but has only illustrated 16 cards to date and eight of them are ARs & SARs
This is peak Tada though. I just love this card, it always puts a smile on my face & just makes me laugh thinking what the hell were they thinking putting those hairstyles on a pokemon
Magmar, Bronzong, Sandshrew, and Absol are the ones I’m looking at with Shinji Kanda. Have one or two of them, but need to search for more in bulk.
Less familiar with Yasukuni since I haven’t got my hands on newer sets but do recognize the Conkeldurr AR and Iron Hands ex SAR. Both fantastic. Might have to wait on some of these newer artists.
