Suppose you can only buy one sealed product today (Booster box, Pokémon Centre exclusive, blister, etc.) from any era in any language that is over $100. Your goal is to make the largest multiple possible on your initial purchase 10 years from today’s date. Which item do you choose? Stonks only, we’re shooting for the moon here, out of the box ideas encouraged!
Gotta have a report for the cabal ready so buyouts can happen. Currently on the agenda is ditching spanish HGSS packs and moving to spanish Ruby/Sapphire packs
It’s a lot easier for some random mediocre modern set to go from $100 to $200 than it is for a 1st ed base box to go from $150k to $300k. So higher multiple vs actual dollar gains is gonna be pretty different
Definetely as many of the mystery boxes from walmart and target as one can buy. They have like 5 holos guaranteed. They are tailored for everyone who asks this question.
I would think out-of-the-box ideas are essential. If this sort of thing (looking for the one item that multiplies the most) were predictable, everyone would do it and then it wouldn’t happen.
As much of a meme that I this thread is, I think it’s an interesting thought experiment. Most sealed product is being printed into oblivion today which limits upside imo and Center exclusive product is typically priced in on day one with a much higher price. Not to say it can’t perform well over time you’re just likely not going to get a ten-bagger. For example if we assume Evolving Skies is the new base set for the younger generation due to Covid creating a one time influx in demand, how much will people pay in 10 or 20 years when they want to come back and relive that experience? In the meantime it is being sold a ton but I don’t know how many people are actually ripping boosters at the price it’s already at to reduce supply. My guess is it’s more likely XY, Sun & Moon products that were still being ripped through at that time that have much less supply and lower print runs.
