I know people talk about Harry Potter a lot on here, but it seems to be a niche product. A franchise being brought back from the dead would likely be what needs to happen.

Yeah Harry Potter did a 10x from a few years ago (20x in some cases at the height of the market), important to keep in mind whilst buying (not that it doesn’t still have potential). There are dead tcgs from the 90s where the booster boxes reach levels below $20. its a bit of a contrarian play, no doubt (perhaps in the vain of
). Personally, from a stonk perspective I would choose these kind of things instead of new stuff. When we are talking about speculating on future price increases, there is little certainties. There are risks involved and we are not owed price appreciation.

One main takeaway people arent taking into account are the amount of people hoarding, and showcasing their sealed collection. There may have been some scalpers back in the day, but the amount of people collecting things due to FOMO that scalpers induce, and then showing off what they have just makes that opportunity to sell take that many more years longer. People that took advantage of the pokemon hype like influencers during covid were mostly already knowledgeable about sets and rarity beforehand. Anything people try and speculate on nowadays are just one big flock of sheep, and they dont realize it.

I just don’t understand who is opening product and burning through supply when the cards inside are worth less than the value of the box which is the majority of modern boxes.

It’s more so a question of how many people have that disposable income when new boxes in the shop/online are $100 or singles can be picked up on the cheap.
I can’t imagine if something like this was released today how insanely priced it would be on the secondary market on day 1.

It would be overpriced then people would actually get a hold of them and realize how many were made, then the price would go down. Like anything else. Sure it could be $500 week 1 like any booster box or set but by the time the month is over it’ll be 1/4 that price. The main thing is what are you wanting from this thread? are you just purely speculating with a thought experiment or are you trying to find the next stonk from the more experienced members of the community? Judging by the thread name and initial question, I would assume the latter. If that is the case, I would recommend nothing because that time period is over and done with. No one can predict the future except our glorious leader Smpratte. Some things may stonk, others may not. Just buy what you like and can afford and if it makes you money, great. Eevee Heroes? I would pick that because imo it’s the most memorable set that’s come out recently and… idk I can’t predict the future. I just want more Eevee Heroes lol
